Question is there something wrong with my lexus?

Hi

I have very interesting question:

I own Lexus LS400 for over nearly a 3 years period and I recently purchase GS400 '98, obviosoly there is a huge difference between those cars i just want to double sure with other folks who own this car that this is how it suppose to be and nothing worng with my car

when i try to steer my steering wheel is from scale 1 (being easiest and 10 being the hardest) is about 7 on gs400 comparing to 2 on ls400, is that suppose to be like that?
i sit in my friend's gs300 2000 and his was same as my ls400 which is 2 on my scale,

is that something wrong with my car? or there is a option for that where i can modify (tune it)?

plus on my friend's gs300 2001 and my old lexus4000 we both have 16" rims and my new lexus gs400 comes with 17" i feel a lot difference between that

my old lexus (ls400) and his gs300 2001 has a lot softer ride then mine gs400.. and i do mean a *lot*

any suggestions/comments would be very welcome

thanks in advance

I suspect that there's nothing wrong with your GS. Lexus' idea of better steering feel is to reduce boost, but imo there's not really any increase in feel. The steering on my GS430 is definitely heavier than my previous coupe and it WAY more so than any LS I've ever driven. But remember that Lexus markets the GS as a sports sedan; your LS is the luxo-barge ofthe stable.

17s also make a difference both in handling and comfort. 45 series sidewalls are obviously much shorter; since they function as an integral part of the suspension, they will not absorb as much of an impact as a 55 or 60 series tire. Very difficult to achieve high levels of handling AND comfort w/o active suspension, so tradeoffs are inevitable. You might check tire pressures, too.

But the best way to determine if there are any real steering problems would be to head for the dealer and testdrive a used GS4 if they have one or an 02 if they don't. The steering ECU was changed for 01 and is (supposedly) the L-Tuned ECU (much discussion elsewhere on the board on this), but regardless, IS a different part than 98 - 00. But comparison should be possible.

Good luck and welcome to GS world!! It ain't your grandad's LS!!

well i'm relifed

i was comparing to my friend's gs300, 2001.. or was it 2000? i'm not entirly sure but in any case

he has 16" rims comparing to my 17"

thats why i wanted to post this threat here to see if someone knows the difference

but in any case i do realize that this is sport sedan and it "suppose" to be like this, although i didn't expect it like that and once again when i sit at my friend's gs300 hes was a lot easier to steer then mine thats why i got suspicious

i'm going to compare some more..

U might want to check the Power steering fluid right next to the battery, see if it's in the Middle where it should be, or if it's kinda low.... U could have a leak.. I have a 02 GS and it steers so smooth.. good luck

yeah, i checked it long time ago, no i dont have a leak and it's full
so steering fluid is not the problem here..

like mooretorque said that there was big difference in steering between 98 and 02..
