180K Advice
I just hit 180K on my GS300. Runs great - just put on new tires, had the ball joints replaced about 4k ago. I want one more year (36K) and then I am getting a new one (maybe GS, maybe LS!!)
Should I have the dealer do the 90K service for $1000 or a local mech change the timing belt and plugs and take a look at the tension pulley (a little squeeky at start-up, then it goes away)???
What do you guys think? I don't want to spend money that I won't use, but I don't want to be left stranded on the road - - -
Thanks.

Wheres the pics of 180K beast?
The local mechanic is one I used to use on my wife's Volvo - - they specialize in Mercedes, BMW, Volvo and now Lexus. Good people, local business and I trust them. They recommended also replacing the water pump and pulley along with the 90K service for ?1300. The dealer wants 2K, and they would include the seals. I have had a very good relationship with the dealer -- in fact I bought my wife a new RX from them last fall.
I will try to post some pictures. The car still looks good, but Houston highway driving has taken its toll on the front end!
As far as ball joints, I have read this forum thoroughly and it seems that this is a necessary repair for the GS, especially the early 2000 models. After replacing the ball joints and getting new tires (the old Yokohomas had 45K on them), it felt like a new car.
