Thanks for the info guys.
Now, the loosening part is clear.
How much do I tighten the tensioner bolt once the new belt is installed?
My guess is just enough to put the tensioner back in place, then it will self correct once the engine is running?

as you tighten the tensioner bolt, clockwise the bolt should would only have a limit of tightening it til the tensioner pulley releases the belt again .. counter clockwise would just remove the bolt .. which you dont want to do

I am sorry for my stupidity, and I am very sincere about this question, but what does this accomplish? Does it make the car run better? I am very interested. Thank you

The Serpentine Belt powers your AC, Power Steering, and Alternator. If it gets too old and snaps you will loose all these systems regardless if you are in your driveway or on a freeway elevated ramp. Changing the belt is preventative maintenance.

I just changed mine with Gatorback belt.
I've never done a belt change before, and it took about 5 min.
I got the belt from Amazon for $38 I think.
Toyota dealer quoted me $188, and the mechenic guy said it's pretty hard to change it and it would take 1 hour. What a BS!
I checked 3 other shops and dealers, and they all wanted between $160 to $200.

Thanks to all who provided useful info.
