You are exactly right. $485 is a great price. "VIP" or "JDM", call it whatever you want, but be prepared to spend serious $$$$ for a wood conversion especially if you have a '98-'00 and you add in the additional airbag cost. Call your local dealer and ask them how much this wheel would be.
Anyone who has ever bought anything from Zeroism knows that the item is high quality and considered "VIP" in Japan. He sources Grazio wheels which in my opinion have even higher quality leather than OEM.
One thing I've noticed on CL is that everybody talks a big game when it comes to doing a wood conversion, but VERY few people go through with it due to the high cost, which is understandable. That is why you see wheels in the classifieds that sit forever before they are bought. I'm sure this is one of the reasons we havent seen a GB from Carson yet. I just sold my old wheel and it took at least 6 months to sell it and I let mine go for $200 and it had tiptronic. Selling your old wheel to someone who wants to do their own wood conversion does re-coupe some of the cost.
In my opinion for '98-'00 guys, the cheapest way of getting this done is to go the American Stitches route because then you get to keep your existing airbag and you don't have to buy the elusive '00 RX.
Congrats again to phillygs3 for the new mod and here is a shot of mine.
