Angry HELP! Crank Bearing??!!!!

I had my headers put in yesterday and I noticed a knock coming from my engine when it was on the lift. Not that loud, but there. Probably didn't notice it when it's on the ground because of the intake and exhaust. I put it on my lift today at work and my mechanic told me there was a crank bearing going bad! Has anyone else had this problem???? Can you buy just the bearing and have it put in after taking off the oil pan(that's what he told me, but he's not a Lexus pro..................or do I need to sell this biatch and find me another???

Sounds like a maintenance issue. Do you drain the oil? What kind of oil do you use?

SELL...you can do just bearings but it will lock up on you. You would need to put a crank kit in it. Dont listen to a mechanic that tells you to slap bearings in it and go, If the bearings are worn enough to knock you can bet the crank is worn to.

only use mobile 1 fully synthetic!

if I can replace just the bearings why would it lock up on me? that doesn't make sense. if a wheel bearing goes bad you just replace the bearing not the whole wheel assemby. a bearing going bad should not cause wear on the crank........

i've had an engine with a faulty crank bearing before. You don't know if the crank is still good until you open up the engine. Let your mech replace the bearing, but if he/she finds any fault with the crank, then just add a crank kit or do an engine swap.

Of course, find someone you can trust, otherwise they can jip you for a lot more than you should have to spend.

Just putting bearings in it wont work. Its knocking because there is to much play in the set up. 9 outta 10 times you will have wear marks on the crank. I have tried many times just to put bearings in a car and it not work. A crank kit is about the only safe way to fix it without a rebuild. If you want to keep it I would check in to a motor from a junk yard. Its a lot of labor to pull the crank and put in a kit, and thats still kinda a half @ss way to fix it.

It is a babbitt bearing. It is not a ball or roller bearing like a wheel bearing. Only a small layer of oil lies between smooth operation and a catastrophic event. So when you take metal of one you take metal of the other.. bearing and crank.
