was there a reason for doing the front fenders in cf? just for looks, or are they wider/vented? i can't tell from the pics.

There's no rule that says you can't paint cf pieces....

I'd paint everything above the chrome line body color...in my instance that would be silver and keep the bottom half in carbon. Then it would remind me of the old two-tone toyotas of the 80's.
