Default light tapping/rattling over bumpy roads. worn sensor?

to quote some other posters here that have described the same problem with no resolution. it sounds like a taxicab; it sounds like a centercap rolling around; it sounds like a cheap bottom dollar car.

i only hear it over rough roads where the suspension really gets a workout. at this point, its only the drivers side front and rear but i suspect the passenger side ones will follow suit soon.

while the car was on the lift getting new oil put in. my mechanic and i jiggled all the suspension bits around and everything was tight. we did ball joints and bushings about 5 months ago.

turns out the mechanism with the small tie rod has worn loose. it moves up and down with the lower control arm and actuates a round arm that rotates in place. theres play where the arm mounts to the frame and a little at the tie rod itself. im not sure what this is but i think it has something to do with the stability control system.

anyone else have a similar situation? got a fix? what does this mechanism do?

fyi car has 104k.
