Default X-Pel Headlight Protection

Just wondering if anyone has tried these headlight protectors. I'm considering buying them once I get my new headlights, but don't want it to look cheap. The website states that they are clear and will remain so even after sun exposure. Can anyone attest to that from personal experience?

Here is some product info:

Did you apply the film yourself or did you let a shop do it? There are a couple of places near me that are X-Pel dealers and installers. I'm considering letting one of them do it, but the first one I called stated that it is fairly difficult to do the GS headlights due to their shape. Apparently a heat gun has to be used to make the film pliable and I just don't want my headlights to get damaged.

yes the gas is hard to work with coz' of the shape, but i have done 2 or 3 sets before already. hair dryer will do. for pro shops, heat gun is nothing...

i did some installs myself but now i just pay people to do it

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm getting to the point where I'd rather pay someone to do it as well. Eventhough I occasionaly get the itch to feel that sense of accomplishment you feel after doing something yourself.

By the way Rom, thanks in general for all of your posts and sharing of info on CL. I've read quite a few of those 45,727 posts.

Though that film does the job its a lot thicker than needed. The 8 and 12 mil film is more than enough and installs much cleaner. It will not hold heat in the lense like the thicker stuff does as well.

I have them on my GS as well (professionally installed).

If you're near Charlotte you can check them out if you like. One side has a small imperfection and my installer said he'd replace it but haven't taken it back yet.

It is thinner than the old stuff but still overkill. I am a 3M dealer and have used it over the years. Its just not as clean and clear as the standard paint protection film.

EDIT:
I just checked the link and that one is the thicker one (like what everyone else stated), mine is much thinner...maybe 1/32" thick. A friend of mine bought one that thick for his WRX and it was pretty ugly imo

I've called some shops in my area and none of them want to attempt the install on our headlights due to their shape. I wish I lived in Cali.
