Question Engine cleaners....

What type cleaners do u guys use to clean ur engines? I've heard that products like Simple Green, etc. are too harsh for our engine (covers, etc.) and im not sure what else to use. I ve tried soap and water but it doesn't really do much. I would like to get that new, shiny look. Any suggestions?

Thumbs up Simple Green

Try diluting the SG. I use a ratio of 1/3 SG to 2/3 water & it hasn't hurt my RMM CF cover yet. SG's very strong - we use it on some of our drilling rigs & production platforms full strength & it cuts waxy paraffin like hot butter!! FWIW - I'm leary of all the electronics under the hood so I use the above mentioned solution & a rag to clean things. Never trusted a strong stream of water to NOT go into places it shouldn't!! If U'd like to try something else, check out what Griot's has to offer specifically for autos. www.griotsgarage.com

Iv'e been using the CD2 Engine Detailing Kit which you can get from Pep Boys, Walmart, Target, etc. It comes with a can of degreaser and a can of detailer. This stuff is awesome! Nothing else Iv'e used can compare with it. Just follow the directions on the box and your all set. You won't regret using this and it makes cleaning the engine in the future a whole lot easier! If you need any more information, post a reply and I'll give you a write up I did on a couple other forums.

P.S. - I didn't worry about covering up the distributor/fuse box/battery/etc. but if you want to feel safe, you can always cover them up with tin foil or plastic bags. Iv'e done it over 6 times on 6 different cars and nothing out of the ordianry here, although I'd strongly suggest not letting the hose run directly over the alternator for a long period of time
