Is the GS just to powerful for the snowy conditions? What experience have you had with the ES in these conditions? I live in Dallas, Tx and it is 100degrees year round here

I live in Upstate New York, where its been known to snow from time to time!!!! This is my first winter in my GS 300, though we really haven't had much of the white stuff yet, I have a lot of winter driving experience. For a RWD car it's not bad at all. In fact my old man has owned a GS300, 525i, and currently E320. He told me hands down the Lexus handled the best!

All I have to say if you have ANY KIND of summer tires on your GS and even think of driving in the SNOW you need to have your head checked.. Those tires are meant for at worse RAIN but when you factor in freezing temps they just don't work..

I've said this before and I will say it again the GS is a GREAT winter driving vehicle just as long as you outfit the bad boy with 16" winter rubber.. We've been using Pirelli Winter 210 rubber from the time we picked up the GS that I worked into the deal on BBS knock-off rims..

Use SNOW mode when turning at intersections or stopped at lights like some of said stay out of Manuel mode and the GS will get you from point A to point B very easily.. I've driven the GS in up to 10 inches of snow last year and it worked like a champiion just as long as you use your head..

With all that said I will totally agree with BrianS that FWD is a better solution in the white stuff but then again you need good tires with that car too..

Happy winter motoring from the Great White North!

That's not quite all. Someone explained it to me as removing the throttle plate from the accelerator, whatever that means. It causes the car to accelerate in a gradual motion. Snow mode removes any chance of jerky power motions that may cause the tires to break loose. It makes your car very underpowered, which is good in snow.

Turn it on sometime; it'll be the most average experience you'll have in your GS.

The VSC system has a onboard computer that is constantly monitoring for any hint of wheel spin. If it senses wheel spin it cuts off power to the fuel injectors and retards timing to limit torque to the rear wheels and hence reduce wheel spin.

...and SNOW mode's job is to ensure that VSC system never has to come on.

Default Snow Tires

Buy Some Michelin Pilot Alpins and you will have no trouble except in the deepest snow (over 6 in)
