Default some general quick questions...

hello i was thinking about trading my sc for a gs but i just had a couple quick questions i was hoping you could help me out with first before i get too involved. first i know with the sc guys everyone swore that swapping a 1jz into a 400 was a nightmare but i recently met someone who said it was just as easy. to the best of your knowledge is there a lot more work in making the 2jzgte aristo motor go into a gs400 than a gs300 (2nd gen) also could you shed some light on the differences between the 98-00 and the 01+ 2nd gens? anything else i need to think about before getting a gs (common problems) is there any other car that parts swap over from ie: supra suspension fits an sc300.

As far as common problems go, if you go for a fairly old gen2 GS, go ahead and get the front suspension overhauled. Lower ball joints, outer tie rods, all the bushings, and any other wearable suspension components since the GS seems to lack in that area. Another common problem is the starter, so that may need to be replaced soon on older gen2 GS's. The GS4 motor is pretty much bulletproof, so I wouldn't worry there - not sure about the GS3's, but I would assume it is as well. Hope that helps a little.

Search for common problems with some GSs you might want to look out for (none really very serious IMO)

Moisture in Healights
Low/rough Idle Issue
Door Actuator Problems
Dash Rattle
Sunroof Rattle
Vibration at Highway Speed

As our cars get older, I'd add to this ball joints and making sure the timing belt is replaced at 90K

Most common parts that swap over would be Supra TT brakes or a Supra Torsen 3.76 LSD

I'll let others that have done a GTE swap chip in on that topic
