I have the SRT intake setup with the K & N.
I want to clean the filter before the spring time.
I logged onto K & N's web site and they have a lot of cleaning things you can buy for their filters. I was just wondering which products I need in order to clean my filter.
Is this easy or hard?
Thanks
MIKE
Mike - I used the K&N Recharger kit ( cleaner & re-oiling spray ) on my Corvette & it's EZ to use. Haven't used it for the conical GS/SRT filter yet but the flat 'Vette filter just required a shallow pan in which to pour some of the cleaner & dipping the filter into it. Then I let it air dry overnight ( don't think they recommend using compressed air to dry them because of possibly damaging the pleated filtering material ) & LIGHTLY re-oiled it the next morning before reinstalling. As I've been telling Juan in our PM's, don't over-oil or the excess will find itself onto the MAF & cause problems. If ya do, try lightly ( seems to be the key word here, huh? ) spraying contact cleaner on the MAF to remove the excess oil. Contact cleaner doesn't leave a residue & is safe for use on electrical parts - seen my Lexus tech spray MAF's with it at the dealership as well.
Sounds kind of scary if you over oil the thing Mean Gene...
Any instructions on how to make sure you oil it properly?
How do you know the filter needs cleaning?
Thanks
MIKE
Mike - Just reviewed the K&N instructions & they say to make a single pass per pleat with the oil ( which is in an aerosol can ). K&N claims that the filter's good for 50k miles between cleanings but I still use the old light trick. Hold the filter up to the sun or a bright drop light & if U can't see the light thru the filter material ( when looking from the INSIDE out ), then it's a good bet that a cleaning's due. My Corvette filter was cleaned every year or so ( 15-20k miles ) just out of habit. Never had any MAF problems from the oil either.
