Default Thanks

Thanks guys I think if anything it's gonna be 19... it's less tempting to upgrade from 18 to 19 tho since it's only one size up heh. Sounds like the 20s are great for american-style driving, but yah, from what you guys are saying, it's definitely not gonna work out here!

BTW, question, when my rear tire blew, it looked like one of those truck tires... like... the whole tire was sticking out from the wheel. Nasty looking. I'm amazed the rim didn't get messed up, smooth highway... I never seen a tire blow like this tho. I've had flats before and they just were "flat" even if not repairable... what do you guys think? I haven't checked what brand these are yet and they came with the car. I didn't hear it either, the car just started slowing down and I pulled over and saw... I was listening to pretty loud music though at the time.

PS You guys have *nice* rides!

I have 19" fat setup (equivalent to an 18" sidewall), and I drive in the WashingtonDC and Baltimore alot...and the roads in many places are HORRIBLE.

The ride quality is still quite jarring going over bumps in the city, but I do have Daizen Sway bars too which stiffen the chassis, and it's lowered on Tein CS.

The 19" fat setup offers WONDERFUL protection if you DO fall into a pothole. I've never had a bent rim in 3 years, and I've crashed into my fair share of potholes and bumps.

But my next set of rims will be 20s, just because the style of rim I want next looks best in 20s on the GS....though I may live to regret it. My hunch is that the ride quality will take one more step downward as well with 20s, mainly because of the short sidewall and the high tire pressure required to protect the rim, 40+ psi.

It's give and take...

When you step down into the 17s, the ride quality improves dramatically. And if you're riding on 16s, it's like riding on clouds. LOL

When I started modding - I went with 19's with a standard Eibach drop - The GS is pretty much Perfect in IMO at that stage - the ride is tight and alittle jarring but if you like it - it really is perfect.. 3 years ago, I came across a ready nice set of 18's I could not pass up and debated for awhile before stepping down to 18's - All I can say is wow! I've never been happier with the 18's.. its smoother and seems softer.. I recently changed my Eibachs and KYB struts with Tein CS and my GS rides as smooth as an LS but still handles Great!! I must be getting old or something.. hehe If you want a great ride stick with 18's - 18's can still look good while retaining a comfort ride..heres a pic of my setup...

My car with low profile 30 & 35 series 19 inch tires, has a similar ride as my 45 series 17's.. Car is equipped with Bilstien PSS coilovers.

which part of Taiwan are you in?
roads in taipei have improved a fair bit in the last couple of years

i think 19"s are fine
and since no one drives really fast on city streets, i think it wouldnt be so bad either

This is probably the most sensible advice you've been given. Doesn't really make sense for you to start your post with 'I blew out my tire" and end it with "I want 20's" Go 18's or 19's with a fat setup to protect yourself in the future.

My driving environment is usually not too bad, but there's often bumps and holes and stuff on the roads, and I can't lower my car much because the design here isn't very accomodating to lowered cars
No different than pothole, crater, dip riddled capitol NYC. My wheels and tires are damage free. Heck there are other members running 25 series tires on 20's with no problem. Porshe, Corvette, Ferrari can be seen right here in my town.. One parked next to mine last winter below

Those cars have some serious low profile rubber stock. Just bump up the psi to 43, and drive with care.
