Another "Should I buy" thread
I have been searching for a 98-00 GS400 for going on 3 months now without much luck. Almost all of the local ones in my color choices have 100K+ miles, need tons of work, etc...
I have been going back and forth with someone for a few weeks. He has a black 98 GS400 with only 54k. He has records of the 15/30/45k services. No paint or bodywork. He upgraded to a factory wood wheel (no more paddle shift). Car looks to be pretty much mint. He was originally asking $21,500, and I now have him down to $17k. He is very firm on the price. Is this a fair deal?
Black is pretty much my 3rd choice. I was looking for a 98-00 for the paddle shift, which is now gone
I am not too comfortable with his asking price. I told him I would do $16k. Even told him I would come up if he would meet me in the middle at $16,500. No luck. $17k or nothing. After doing some research, $17k seems to be at the high end of what the vehicle is worth, but not out of line.
I am not in a big rush, and waiting longer only means more money I can put down. I just do not want to regret passing this one up b/c of the low miles. Thoughts?

Don't rush into anything that you will regret later. If you're not in a rush then just keep waiting until the right car comes along. You don't want to feel like you got suckered or like you overpaid. And yea that does seem high for a 98.
$17k for a 10 year old car isn't a deal at all. Yes the mileage is low, but the car suffers from aging. You're bound to have lots of rubber deterioration in your suspension, engine mount, etc. I'd say stay away from it.
Take your time.. 17k doesn't seem to bad.. I paid alot more for my 99 GS400 with 54k 2 years ago.. Keep looking.. somewhere in the 15-17k range would be normal IMO for a 400.. GL
