I ended up bite the bullet and bought the charcoal canister from Carson Toyota for $400 and $200 labor from a local shop. I eliminated the P0446 code and had no problem since then
Well, I guess that's answers my question. Oh well, guess I'll have to bite the bullet. Thanks for the info.

The craziest thing just happened with the check engine light. I was driving home yesterday and the light shut off. It didn't come back on for the rest of my trip home.

I figured it would re-appear this morning. It didn't. I'm going to keep an eye on the issue.

Mine did that as well. It would come on for a couple days then go off for a day or two. It did this dance for about 2 weeks or so, then it decided to just stay on all the time.

Reconnected the battery and gave the gas cap a couple turns before turning on the car. 400+ miles later and still no check engine light

I will have to try this as well, my CE light came on then went off around 1500 miles later and then came back on 400 miles later

So I got the CE Code P0446,

Is it true that Lexus/Toyota replaces this up until 150k?

If so I am right at 100k and they should replace the charcoal canister right?

I need to find that in writing somewhere so I can take it to the dealership

Same here. I've driven over 1000 miles since my last post. No CELs. All I did was replace the gas cap.

I'll try that first to see if that works, I hope it does, I just don't want to deal with the dealership on this...

When i replaced teh gas cap, the light did come back on. I drove for about 150 maybe 180 miles and the light went off and stayed off. I have not seen the light since.

Hopefully, this will fix your problem too. Good Luck

My tech was telling me that at the Dealership there was a person there that knows about the charcoal canister and that the dealership would replace it since it was a recall, hopefully that will clear out the CE Light

Thanks, this thread has been great help!

i know i'm digging up a thread from the past but this could potentially help someone save some money...

i've been intermittently getting the p0441 and p0446 code for the past few days. i have a scan gauge so i've just been clearing the code because i'm sick of seeing that check engine light. well - tonight, i went over to Kaiser's house (fellow CL member) and he points out the evap exhaust return tube that was undone. rtis250 mentioned that i should check out this tube but i checked on the wrong side of the engine (gs300) so anyway- Kaiser connects it back and on the drive back - no CEL!

free fix!
