Default 98-00 , 01-05 differences?

are there any noticable differences between the 2 years? Im lookin at buyin a GS300, just wanan do some research befroe buyin one

98-00 have lower ball joint failure issue (front end of the car hits the ground upon failure), while 01+ has a redesigned joint that prevents that problem (someone to clarify that for me). 98s also have the door actuator problem and the recall on vsc sensor.

if you can hold out, look for a gs400 or gs430.

fyi, to turbo the ge engine (NA-T) would cost you about $3-4k and you're good for about 400rwhp. To do an engine swap (gte w/ stock turbos from jdm aristo OR a supra tt) is around $6K + bpu++ + tuning can get you to 410~450rwhp. The stock gs300 tranny holds about 380rwhp until it needs rebuilding. The only advantage to the engine swap is that it is rock solid, and there is always more room for more power.

If you're not looking to FI in the future, I suggest you get a gs4/430. A few bolt-on mods and some SAFC-II tuning can make you a real happy camper.
