Question What's that ASL Stereo Setting?

Any body has a clue if the ASL Stereo setting actually does anything different whether its on or off? I know it stands for automatic sound control and is supposed to increase stereo volume depending on the speed, but I can't hear any difference.

Does it work?

When turn on the ASL, you'll see a little meter next to the ASL display. It shows how much db it's adding to the output. Trun on the ASL and then roll down the window at high speed, you should see about 2-3 ticks increase. That means it's working.

When turn on the ASL, you'll see "ASL -=" at the lower right corner of the radio display window.

This must be different if you have the nav. I do, and when I have ASL on (or off) there is no display to the side of it).

Strange, all I see is the "ASL" displayed on my radio (I don't have the NAV) and no bars to indicate that it is working and increasing the volume.

How does it know that it needs to pick up the volume, anyway? Is there a sound sensor in the car?

there is a sensor in the car that tells wind/road noise, it works when your on ruffer roads or you have your windows down, I think the new SC430 has a decked out version of it since its a convertable

I got a 98 w/nav and no bars either next to ASL. But, I also find it hard to tell if it's working.

Default depends on vehicle spped

ASL adjusts based upon vehicle speed. It has nothing to do with windows up or down. I believe the preset from Japan is 80 KPH before ASL kicks in.

Its just that I've never actually heard it working. Does it work for you?

I don't like it because when you come to a stop with the ASL On you hear the volume get lower. People who never new I had it asked why the volume suddenly got lower. I did notice one thing when you set the bass higher for example with ASL on it has more bass than when it is off.

ASL is most noticeable if you have the volume set at a low level. If you already have the volume cranked up, the ASL won't compensate because it doesn't have to.
