Default New GS430

I came upon this site while doing research for purchasing a GS430. This place is awesome. Went back through the archives for the past year just to catch up and learn the lingo.

My wife just bought her first Lexus, a Black/Black 2001 GS430 with the ML/NAV package. Fantastic car! It's the first V8/RWD vehicle that we've owned and the power distribution is awesome. Now I understand the term "riding on rails". The other great thing about the GS's is that there aren't too many of them on the road. Nice ego boost!

No modifications planned for the vehicle. I'll leave that to the young folks! We actually traded in the 17 inch chrome wheels for the 16 inch chromes. Felt the 17's were a bit too noisy. while the 16's were smoother and quieter. But you've gotta love some of the things you folks are doing to the car. Exhaust work, new suspension, 18 inch rims! Nice.

I'm am going to try some of the Zaino products, as they have gotten some positive endorsements in the archives.

This is going to be fun.

Speaking as one of the contingent of "The Old Guard", welcome to CL. Lots of good info and good fellowship here. I might add that it's not just the folks who are younger than you who have modded their rides or are planning on same. But it's nice to be considered young now and then anyway!!

Congrats on your new vehicle KRSims, this site is fantastic for answering any questions or offering tips on your GS. As others will tell you here, the car is ridiculously reliable to the point of being boring, but the speed combined with the luxury is unsurpassed. Definitely try the Zaino and use Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner, and Lexol vinyl cleaner on the dash. Good luck and welcome aboard !

LexusPride, Mooretorque,

Thanks for the welcome. Reliability is one of the reasons we went with the Lexus. The Lexus did have the best maintenace/repair record of the cars we looked at. The wife initially had BMW, Jaquar and Acura on the list. I immediately withdrew the Jaquar because it's now essentially a glorified Ford in my mind. BMW was too expensive for the packages available and the Acura didn't have enough oomph. The Lexus was juuust right!

Mooretorque I'm pretty sure if "I" was driving the GS I would eventually succomb and join the "youngins", but my ride is an Isuzu Trooper. And I know the Mrs. doesn't give a rat's behind about Borla's or ECU's etc. So I'll have to stick to reading about all the fun y'all are having.

LexusPride where can I find the Lexol products? Haven't heard of those before. Would Pep Boys or Trac Auto carry it? Thanks for the info.

Yes Pep Boys will carry all 3, and Zaino is by mail order only.

KR,

welcome, and wise choice of new lex... i have a blk/blk too, and if you are into car detailing, zaino is a must have according to many guys here. the shine could blind you-my lady use the door panel, and engine hood as her mirror sometimes.

lexol is one of the best leather treatment, if not the best. last time i actuallt saw them at a discount at Costco warehouses(unsure of you have them in IL). you can also try:

www.griotsgarage.com, their leather treatment is very good too.
