Default A tubo kit for GS300 by toyomoto!

I receive an email from one of the guys at toyomoto telling me they can put on a stage 1 turbo for my GS. Price for the stage 1 kit is $8k, this includes a haltek and manifold turbo and all essential turbo applications. Just wanted to know if I should go with it or is the price too much? I email them back for the specs but haven't gotten any response. Let me know what you guys think about this kit or should I go with the SRT or Area51 Stage 1 Supercharger.

Thanks guys

Cong28,

Could you ask them if they have any turbo application for GS400/430? Appreciate it.

make sure what they're talkin about is the 98+ GS300 not the 1st gen GS. 8000 is pretty reasonable for a turbo kit. Almost too reasonable. Find out some stats and specs, and also all the parts that's used.

Hey man 8k is kinda too much for a Turbo upgrade for the GS300 if you ask me man ,,,, its an inline 6 much easier to make a Turbo for it than a V8........................ things you should consider if you would buy it is .

Is it a Bolt on System ?
How much HP are you going to get?
Reliablility?
Compare the Turbo system with other manufacturors price wise?

I have seen some turbo kits for 1-4 k for some six cylinder cars. 8k is kinda pushing it

Civic and Integra turbo kits are 3k~4k, then about 600 more for installation. I would expect a turbo kit for the GS300 to fall around 8k~10k range. The hard part is the electronics, especially the ECU and VVTi which are relatively easy to deal with in Civics and Integs. Plus it's probably not a bolt-on.

Default "complete"

The Toyomoto kit seems pretty complete especially when it offers provisions for a return line and a piggyback stand-alone-type computer. I assume the kit also comes with additional fuel injectors, additional pump, and a head gasket. I think basically the kit is a kit that also converts a non-turbo car into a turbo car setup... sounds like "DUH." Think of this for reference: the HKS T04R ($5000+), GReddy T-78 ($4000+), RPS T-61 ($5500), Blitz (not even gonna go there) are only manifold, turbo, wastegate, piping/plumbing based only... they don't come with additional injector, pumps, fuel return system, head gasket etc. These kits require that the car is a 2JZ-GTE already. Toyomoto is not a HKS, A'Pex-I, GReddy, Blitz therefore cost to produce manifolds for instance have to be outsourced to an indepedent machine shop.

My only concern about the Toyomoto kit is that it does not emphasize forged pistons... Toyota, sorry to say, cut corners on the VVT-i based engines when they used more cost efficient pistons. Also the tranny is not really recommended to hold in access of 340rwhp. 24,000 GVW rated tranny coolers will help but not by much...

Here is the reply I receive from Toyomoto:

"I would honestly recommend that you do the install at our shop, just becasue i know that we can gurantee our work and craftsmanship. If you were to bring the car down here to do the install, i can gurantee that when it leaves you will not have any problems with our parts or installation.
You will not have any ECU problems because the car will be running with the Stand alone Haltek unit. HP will be about 300RWHP... "

What other questions do you think I should ask?

Default not cheap

Sasha,

I thougt we have discussed this already. The VVT-i 2JZGTE runs around $6500-$7500 US dollars if you can find one. The Getrag-6 is in the upper $3000 if you can find one. It's going to take a tremdous amout of work to get it to run especially with the 6-speed. I'd say your looking at $18,000 to get your setup to run. You have two options... 1) Supra Twin Turbo ECU and reroute the harness to fit the spec. 2) F-Con V Pro and use it as stand alone... your dilema is no one in the stateside can program it. We'll talk more if you have at least $18,000 liquid.

the toyomoto kit is awsome....he makes his own manifold for the GS300/SC300/IS300 it has made over 600 rwhp on turbo alone...the factory in ternals can handle that hp...the pistons in the vvti motor are the same as the non vvti motor..they will hold up....toyomotos kit includes a haltec stand alone ECU ..all piping...turbo..manifold.....clamps....oil lines....fuel upgrade....tranny shift kit....intercooler...BOV......i have some pictures of an is300 he just finished....a turbo will also give you more hp than any supercharger........this is not some DRAG kit for a honda.....its a full turbo system and it fully upgradeable to over 600rwhp by changing minimal parts.....i highly reccommend bringing the car to toyomoto to get a perfect install.......if you have any questions post em or email em and ill be happy to answer them..Jeff
