I have my tranny replaced at dealer once at 40k miles under warranty. The after market TC triggered the CEL and dealer could not determined the causes, so they had to replace it under warranty

that's one way to change your fluid

did you take out the aftermarket TC before you brought it to them or they just not notice it was aftermarket TC?

BTW-there was recently a member with a GS430 that had his trans replaced 2X under warranty. can't remeber name.

I think that's a misconception now. Fresh fluid is never a bad thing. If there is nothing wrong with your car, then replacing fluid isn't bad. Now if there is something wrong with the tranny, and you replace the fluid, then there could be problem(s), but the tranny is to be blamed for, not the fluid changing.

A guy on my old forum use to change his tranny fluid every 25k miles, and his car currently has about 340k miles, on original tranny.

Chuck,

That's the painful part. I had to swap the stock TC back in to get that new tranny

Of course I got a new TC as well

Thanks for all the tips, guys. I have the aftermarket torque converter, with tranny cooler. I will start changing my tranny fluid more often.

yea it should be fine. the guy i know drives highway basically 95% of the time, so there is less wear on the tranny. Now for mostly city driving, 15k is good.

My father's mechanic told me the same thing. My ATF was dark and smells burnt. He refused to flush my transmission and told me to "just drive it til' it gives out".

I never encountered any problems with it, except for lag acceleration but I'm sure all you GS guys can relate. Ever since I would drain and fill the ATF every oil change. Two quarts out, two quarts in. I'm at 90k miles right now, not a problem yet. :crosses fingers:

Anyone got a picture of where to drain tranny fluid, and also a picture of where to refill tranny fluid. I'm not with my car at the moment, but i am performing the rest of my 90k mile service and this is one of the few things left on my list when i get it back. Thanks,

John

I've experienced the same thing. Seems that it downshifts hard into second pulling into my driveway everytime so often when i'm racing it around. Anyone know if changing to a different fluid will help this? I had toyota do a powerflush last time, but I'd, too, like to know how to do it for the next one. Seems these trannys are built to last though

did you replace the tranny because of the CEL or was it acting up?
