Default Quick Question- diff. gasket sealer

I am cleaning out my Supra differential to put in the GS and want to know what differential sealer to use. What is suggested? The OEM stuff I purchased is in a tube, reddish in color, and was about $22. I bought a tube but didn't know if this was right as some people said it's only about $15. Also, could I use the cheap black RTV or should I stick with the OEM stuff I bought. What is the part number on the OEM stuff so I can check when I get off work? Is there any sealant needed (i.e. teflon) on the breather?

I think you are talking about "FIPG". The price varies from store to store, but if you bought it from the dealer, you should be just fine.

This product needs to be kept cool and out of sunlight. When you apply, make sure both surfaces are clean and smooth. Read instructions about which 'cleaners ar ok to use". If I recall correctly wd40 should not be used. The trick is to apply it in a contineous bead and around each bolt hole. When the two surfaces are mated (by toquing the bolts at the specified torque) you get a leak proof joint.

There is a catch though. You have about 10minutes from exposure to air to last bolt-torqued. So do the prep-work before and keep the tools nearbye.

I used this on my son's transmission pan. No problems.

I would avoid using non-reccoemended product .. because I dont know better.

Thanks. I use brake parts cleaner to clean everything as it doesn't leave any residue and is a great solvent.
