While my GS430 is getting the Spoiler painted and tightened properly County Line Lexus gave me a 2001 GS300 as a loaner. When I got into the car I noticed that the Mats looked like black rubber with dimples on them and they were not secured to the floor. Didn't think much of it until the Mat shifted and the accelerator peddle got stuck on the Mat. I tried to pump the peddle but it would not release! I was passing a car on the street and had floored it. I put my foot on the brake and was desperately trying to remove the Mat. I finally got it loose with great effort while trying to maintain control of the car. I was all over the road but avoided an accident. I turned the Mats over and they were the normal GS floor mats. It is nice they gave me a GS300 but not at the cost of my life because they don't want to get the Mats dirty! I am just glad I was not in my GS430 with the accelerator floored like this! :eek: Also now I remember a friend who was in the back seat of my GS430 last month was trying to secure one of the Mats for me and cut his hand on the sharp rubber! Maybe the dealer is trying to tell me something!

ceoart - I'm starting to think that the dealership is conspiring agaist you...

Man, I would raise some SERIOUS HELL with them...that could have gotten you into an accident or, at the very worst, gotten you killed! A stuck accelerator is no joke!

I would not go to the dealership in the future and call Lexus and complain about how cheap they were with the floormats which almost caused you to crash...

God, I hate bad dealership!

 

Glad your okay and didn't get in an accident . I don't think they flipped them over to keep'em clean . I think it was just a mistake by the person cleaning that car before delivery .

Usual the dealer has a white paper that they will place on top of the mats to keep'em clean . Every time mine goes in for service it comes back with these white paper on top of my mats to keep clean.

 

Whoa... glad to hear you're still w/ us and handled the situation well!!!! I swear, If that happened to me, I'd freak! Now all I have to do is make sure that that doesnt happen EVER!!!

I also agree that they probably didnt purposely flip over the mats... someone (the prep people) probably just thought that's the way it went in... Well.. i'm glad that at our dealership... they put a plastic seat cover on your seats, and a plastic floor mat to keep the car clean... but... it's kinda redundant for the floor mats because as soon as you receive your car from the dealer, your sales guy throws in a set of clear plastic floor mats!!! Boy.. Lexus Guam really spoils us!!! Thank god

Hihi, if that happens to me, I'd try to brake while shifting the car to neutral and turn off the ignition switch. Glad all went well for ya.

 

I think that some really do that. My wife test drove a new Maxima last week and the mats were flipped.

 

I had that happen on my old GS. I SHOT out of Denny’s parking lot through a 4 lane road, I didn’t even realize what is going on it happened so fast. I had time to turn before I started to REALLY accelerate, which was in another 4 lane road, I kept kicking the pedal and it stopped.

The whole incident must have taken 4-5 seconds but it seemed like forever.

Anytime I get a loaner I flip the mats over and if someone was working on my car and they flipped them, I use to just drive home like that, never again.

 

I think that every GS I test drove recently had the mats flipped (rubber side up). I noticed this and didn't think anything of it (other than it was obvious that they wanted to protect the carpeted side until the vehicle was sold).

It's frightening to think that someone test driving a vehicle that they are totally unfamiliar with might have the mat slip and stick the accelerator like has been described in this thread. You break it, you buy it?

 

I would mention it to the dealer that did that to you...although i think it was accidental...you can help stop the practice at the dealership and save someone else's life.

Another suggestion - if mats are upside down, clearly the dealer doesn't want them getting dirty, so just throw 'em in the back and drive without them.
