Default High Mileage GS300 Question

My '00 GS300 has almost 98K miles. With my new job, I will put 3000 a month on the car. It is in very good shape, always serviced at proper intervals by the dealer, etc. With the new GS out now, the car is probably not worth much as it approaches 100K, so should I run her until the kids are old enough to drive her or trade her in for new wheels? Who has run their GS into the mid 100k+ miles? Outside of regular maintenance, am I looking at some high dollar repairs later on?

Looking for some feedback. Thanks.

Have you done the 90k service yet?

Here's the question you really need to ask yourself. Do you still like the car? If so, I'd spend a little money to maintain it and keep it. If you're putting 3,000 miles on per month, you're looking at 36,000 miles a year, which will absolutely destroy the value of a brand new car (as you know). If you still like the GS, spend a few bucks on the 90k (and 30k's thereafter) drive it for another 100,000 miles. I don't think the decision should be made based on maintenance costs, because you'll have that with any car you drive. Aside from replacing the starter (which is a major expense on the GS400), a properly maintained GS can run forever.

What does everyone else think?

P.S.: By the way, are you still running on the original shocks? Just curious.

cars at 118k now....

to this day, never had a single problem with it...

just maintain it properly, oil change, 30k 60k, 90k etc. and you should be fine

I ran my car in the mid 100 thousand miles and it only cost $500 for the major tuneup. I bought the waterpump, timing belt, cam seals, crank seals, belt tensioner, spark plugs, serpentine belt for all under $300 from sewell lexus. A bargain to get your car running smoothly for another 100 thousand miles if you ask my opinion.

Thanks for the responses. I did have the 90K service done and I still love the car. The interior is in perfect shape with almost no wear on the driver's seat. Probably should get new floor mats though. I would like to get a new windshield (driving in Houston just kills the front end of your car) and maybe repaint the front too.

As for shocks, I do have the originals. The left strut was replaced because the dealer thought it would cure the creaky sound I heard (I think it was just torquing everything in the rear suspension).

Good points all. I do spend alot of time in my car and it is a great place to be. Gotta love Lexus!
