removing struts

Default removing struts

ive been trying to remove my struts to put lower springs, but the fornt struts are hard i havent been able to remove em. do you have to remove the top screws first or the bottom? and what is a good tool to compress the spring?

Not only do you have to remove the top nuts and lower bolt, but you have to disconnect the balljoint from the control arm to get some clearance and take out.

i changed all of mine installing tein's, i didnt have to remove the ball joint. just be careful of the speed senor wire. damage that and it's $$$$$ to fix.

I hope you've done your homework. if you mess up those fragile sensors, $$$.

check in the suspension section of the forums i found a step by step with pictures for installing springs. it made my install go very smooth. you don't need to mess with the ball joint, but do be careful with the abs sensors as stated in previous replies the can damage easy. i carefully removed my sensor wires out of their holders and moved them to the side first thing, and be sure to mark the strut and spring perch before taking them apart, this will ensure they line up when you try to put them back in and save lots of time. oh yeah you can rent spring compressers from a lot of auto parts stores, check at your local shop!! good luck and don't forget the air tools (life saver)!!!
