Nakamichi Garbage Please Help!!!
I'm going through the exact same thing you are right now. When I first got the car the stock changer played all cds just fine. As time went by the reliability of it started deminishing. I started getting read errors (ERR 2), music skipping, tracks not playing at all, and distorted sound. It didn't matter if I burned at 48x or 4x, nor did it help by burning with a different burner. I used quality blanks too.
So I got fed up and decided to go with a universal addon CD/MP3 changer because I wanted the stock look. I regret going this route because the sound isn't very impressive. It lacks the fullness and dynamic range of the stock changer. Surprisingly FM radio even sounds better. Most likely due to a weak radio section of the head unit. I practically have to turn the volume past half way to get some decent sound. It's nice to have the convenience of 100's of songs on one cd but I'm really bugged about the sound quality. So after this year I'll be comtemplating on what new route I'm going to take.

WOW. reading this thread is really informative and so interesting. Its nice to know I'm not the only one that has this problem and theres ways to combat it.
Yeah thats what I was thinking too, because I don't burn original store cd's, I burn from my computer, like mp3's and stuff (shared files).. I thought its better to burn at a lower speed, like you said, and I tried, but it still skips. and also, the cd's play on my mom's car's cd player or any other cd player just fine, or do you think it might just be the lexus cd player having this problem?,
maybe its worth a try..........
Maybe I should try buying really good quality writable cd's and write at the lowest possible speed?

wow... it's been a long time since this subject was covered! I remember it when it was back in the old ezboard forum. This is a very well known issue with the lexus/pioneer CD player.
cheap spindle cd's will not play well in this cdplayer. unless you go for name brand.
go out and buy maxxell or fujifilm or TDK. you can find those over at mwave for a really cheap price... i think it was something like $30 for 100 pack.
I have had the best luck with the black CD's... like the ones for playstation. I dont know who sells them except for our local stores here on Guam.
Good luck!

i'm using imation cd-r 700mb/80min and no problems. i think your laser reader may be dirty or dusty. i would try blowing compressed air into the unit to clear out some dust. try using those small compressed air can from staples. these are mainly to clean keyboards and small computer components.
ok thats a pretty good idea about the compressed air, but where do you put it in??
because the cd player is in the cd changer right? there isn't actually like a cd slot I can put it into on my head unit.
I just went out and bought some sony 700mb 80 min. and I am going to burn at the slowest speed and see what happens.
I bought one of those cd cleaner cd's that have the two brushes on the actual cd itself and I put it in and ran it a few times, when I took it out, the brushes were almost falling off. stupid bestbuy!!

cd lens cleaners don't work. it's a marketting gimmick. the cd laser lense on a cd player is not rubbing the cd like a cassette on a magnetic head. even when dust settles on the laser lens, it should still be able to read the cd's.
the symptoms you describe, with skipping, static, usually, if you are LUCKY, means a scratched or cheap CD or CDR. if you are getting these symptoms with a real music cd you bought, then it usually means the cd laser lens on your cd player needs adjustment. adjusting these lenses, is pretty straight forward and easy, but for car players, you would have to go back and forth and plug it back in the car to test. if you take the player apart, near the laser lens, there is a little ****, which i believe is a variable resistor. you can adjust that to give the laser lens more juice. but just a little turn either clockwise or counterclockwise will do. remember to always mark the original position. keep adjusting until the cd player plays correctly. if you overadjust, the cd player will keep spinning and not read cd's.
again, if you do not have the technical skills to try this, then i would recommend you have someone, preferrably from a stereo repair shop do this. but this is basically the procedures needed to fix a skipping cd player. i've repair numerous cd players before using this method.

Well I cant say it is just your cd, changer or the signal to your amp it could be a few different things. See I guess you kinda have to figure out if you want to go aftermarket or stay stock. To go aftermarket your going to be changing out alot of items , headunit, cd changer , and your amplifier, and if you want any bass a new sub with an aftermarket amp. Otherwise you can try getting a e new cd changer and start there. That is if your radio works just fine and you have no interfierence there. But I would have to say that the eclipse headunit that you have choosen to go with if you do replace it would be the best one for sure. I have put a few in and they look absolutely awsome. They have great sound quality plus you have the nav, and dvd option. Once I start having issues with my system thats exactaly the one Im using as my headunit. Just make sure the other aftermarket pieces are a quality product. Like a six disk eclipse changer you should have no problem fitting in the stock spot and maybe a five or six channel amp and run all your speakers off of that and then you will have a sub control. That sub can handle a decent amount of power but dont over do it. I knoe that will sound good I just did the same thing in a friends gs except I used the kenwood double din screen in his, but it looked and sounded great.
See this post https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=192095 for the Nakamichi head unit upgrade.
