Default Wheel Straightening

My stock 17" 5-star rims are pretty beat up by NYC roads. I put new tires on and when the shop tried to balance them (with that Hunter road force machine), they couldn't do it without using a very large amount of weights (there must be at least 15 on one of them). Has anyone had their wheels re-trued? I notice a lot of vibration at all speeds, getting more severe the faster I go. It's at its worst at 60 and in the 80's, but it never goes away. Prior to replacing the tires (I got a nasty flat and discovered the tires were pretty worn, so I replaced all 4), there was vibration but it has def. become worse - I had to ride on the flat for about 1/2 a mile, possibly damaging that rim the worst. Has anyone used these wheel repair procedures? I have very little curb rash (no rim dents from potholes, they hold air just fine etc) and will have the wheels refinished if they can be fixed. Can they repair out-of-true rims? It seems to run about $75 per wheel for 17" rims. Any experiences?

Do you know for sure if the wheels are bent? Did the people that mounted and ballanced your tires tell you your wheels are bent? If not, bring it back and have them or another tire shop reballance them. Good luck.

They told me they did the best they could, but the wheels were def. bent. It was a Tire Rack recommended installer with very good customer reviews so I trusted their opinion.

I had stock 16" straightened. They said it would be good as new, but it still vibrated at all speeds. You should just get a new one.
