i have been doing some reserch for the past month or so and i found out that toyota made a 4.27 gear rear end diff. so i found one and went to work on it. i just got done putting the baby in the car and all i have to say is one word WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the car gets up off the line so fast it's not even funny. i think i will be buying rear tires very often now. the swap was not to hard at all to do the hardest part was to take the 4.27 diff over to the rear end shop and get the yolk changed on it.

Congrats on the mod. Yeah as LXOGOOD stated, How off is the speedo? Also, have you checked the how far the speed limiter is? Do you have LSD installed also or just the gears? Sounds like a great mod.
4.27? damn, now i can have more fun the next time i'm at your shop. (ha ha) i'll be calling you soon man. just been busy but i already have most of the parts. still waiting on the wheels though.

very nice. yes the idling speed won't change, that shouldn't matter.
stock is 3.26 or 3.27 i forgot
the speedo off is ALWAYS a % of the speed you going, it's not a constant value. if going from 3.2x to 3.76 is about 3 to 5% (i forgot), going to 4.2x would just be another 4% max i say. i believe when my speedo says 80mph, i am going at about 84mph, so with the 4.2x, you are going at around 87mph when it says 80mph. 10-15mph that's way too much, you gotta be using 5.xx i think
and about top speed, stock is 149mph, and with the 3.76 it's about 130 to 135. with the 4.2x? maybe 120? this is just a rough guess though
well yesterday i was driving 45 mph and i drove by one of those signs that flash your speed and it said 45 just like what my speedo was reading. but today i will drive by a little faster to see how far it is off if any. on the freeway yesterday i hit around 120mph and the speed limiter didn't kick in yet today i will try to go faster and see when it kicks in. my stock gs 4 gears where 3.22 and yes this rear end is off of a 93-97 sc 300 automatic. if anyone needs one done in my area i can install them for you.

No Henry, I believe gearing doesn't change the speedo reading at all because that comes off speed sensors on the wheels, not the driveshafts.
The only thing that changes speedo readings is changing tire diameter.

Yes, lower final gearing will decrease top speed.
)@&*%)(@*^)(&@**^@ yes you are right paul..... i don't know what the heck is wrong with me..... why i always mix up between bigger wheels and different rear gear ratio..... sorry, my bad my bad.... the speedo will still be exact. paul is right, it will only change if you have different wheel diameter
