Well... I guess my GS400 was slow cause i got beat by a 430....

Then when i drive it it felt faster then mine.

I'll be going w/ the 430 soon... But not because of the speed. For the prices now you can pick up a 430 for a couple more thousand... Worth it too me.

 

I thought the reason some think the GS400 is slightly faster than the GS430 is because the best tested 0-60 time from the car mags. for the GS400 is 5.7 sec. & no mag. had tested a 430 that matches that 0-60 time ?

 

Id go for the 400. The 400 is probably going to be lighter, plus, a 1UZ is going to be better then a 3UZ when you forcefully induce it. Im sure both of them are still going to be nice quiet cars. And the 400 is a tad cheeper and with the money saved, you can buy internals and some turbo parts

 

Ive been reading posts lately about how some 430's are unresponsive (kind of die out almost until you have to push the gas pedal all the way in) at cruising speeds, and that the problem comes and goes, and that the dealerships really have no real fix for it. That may be something to consider also....(as I havent seen it an issue yet for 400's...either that I havent seen related posts on it)

 

i don't have that problem on my sc430 which has the same engine.

but on my gs400, i just feel that the throttle response is much better than that of the gs430/sc430

 

I've never had the mushy pedal either.

on a side note-how come the GS430 is as quick or faster than the SC430?

 

I've never had slow response issues with my 430. I hit the gas and it takes off.

 

sorry, I should have said GS430's (just assumed 430 was GS specific....my bad)

 

I agree both cars are fast and I have driven both cars back to back before I made my final purchase. The only thing I disagree with you on is the "e-shift". There is no advantage using e-shift from a stopped position. In fact, under wot, using e-shift can cause you to hit the rev limiter since there's a delay in the time you hit the button to the time the tranny shifts. However on another point, I think the 400 has an advantage over the 430 if you are going to add a TC. There's no cel issue with the 400 but with the 430, you may end up with that problem. It 's hit or miss. Overall if I were looking at the 400 or 430, I would go with the one that was in the best condition.

 

The SC430 is a little heavier . Hardtop convertibles in particular are heavy.

 

You'll love either one so enjoy what evere you buy

 

Go with the GS430 but i'm partial to it cause i have one either way both great cars !!!

 

Stay away from the 300.....I look cute in it.....but you can only see me in the rearview mirrors

 

gs400 is faster than the gs430 because its lighter and the throttle response is better. the gs430 is quieter but slower due to the added weight of sound deadening materials. also, the gs430 is slower because it uses a different throttle response system....dont believe me? ask a lexus technician...

 

do you think that whopping 22lbs makes a difference?
everyone knows the GS430 has a different ecu/ drive by wire setup, what do we need to ask a tech?
