What was the residual and purchase price at the end of the lease? I'm looking at certified 98 GS's with retail prices ~30-33K. If the original price was ~41-43K then the residual would be 75% retail = 25% depriaciation. That's outrageous.

Any help would be appreciated. What would a good purchase price be if the retail for a certified 98 GS is 32K? Thanks.

The sticker on my 98GS400 w/premium and 17s was about $48k.

Not sure but I believe the residual after 39 months was $32k.

Default good prices

OUT,

the msrp for a gs4 back in 98 was ~$48-50K, as marty stated. and the res. value 3 years later is ~56-57%. so if you can find a good, certified 98 gs for ~$30k-32k, you got a good deal. because it is hard to find one for less than $30k as the car is in demand. in addition, lex has raised the prices on the gs since 98, hence, increase the resale value.

here in LA, most dealer's RETAIL price on 98s are ~$35k(what a BS). i think $29-31k is more reasonable based on the residual % value. this just to show you how much profit are there in used cars. one of our members, JUAN, has a 98gs4 in PRISTINE condition(9k miles), and the dealer would only give him a trade value of $30k-what a rip-off. they would turn arpound and sell it for at least $35k. i was glad he decided to keep the car.

i am looking at a 01 NAV+ML gs430 w/msrp $56200, and was told the residual value is ~$32k(57% msrp) for a 3-year, 15k/yr lease.

I just leased a GS430 with Nav & ML. Sticker was also about $56200K. My lease was for 39 months with a residual of 61% ($34K). If you are up to it I would highly recommend going to leaseguide.com and doing some research, especially on money factors which can really add unnnecessary dollars to your payment. Money factors are generally quoted in decimals (for example .00315), this means absolutely nothing to the average consumer and it is deliberately designed to confuse, however if you multiply that figure by 2400 you will arrive at the APR, Which In this case is %7.56, not bad...but you can do better. By the way I was able to get my GS430 for $49K (+tax & license) but it was the end of the month, a Saturday and I didn't really need a car as I was going on 2 week business trip and wouldn't be driving it. Besides that they have GS's stacked to the rafters in California.

Good luck!

I leased a GS400 in 1998. It has EVERYTHING, nak, 17 inch, tires, wing, etc. Only thing it doesnt have is the Chrome rims. Sticker was around 52k+ - I just purchased it (end of lease) for $30,900 - I love the car, thought about releasing, but the new 430 didn't really tickle me and my car does have under 28k miles.

Any questions, post.
