Engine Die Out
I recently constructed a cold air induction for my GS4. I have a Sportline front-end; thru one of the duct holes in the bumper, I ran a 3" skeet hose from the bumper to the underside of the airbox where I cut a hole and built a flange for the pipe. In other words I'm taking cold air from the bumper and blowing it right on the Air Filter. The funny thing is, the car is really strong, but will die out at every stop light or sign. If I stuff a rag into the hose blocking the air-flow, the car runs the way it used to and doesn't die out. I'm running a SRT HFI/ECU Kit and has run great since I installed it. But with the cold air intake, the motor refuses to idle. Anybody have a clue what's going on?
Although I'm a marketing guy, it sounds like the device you have constructed is confusing the stock ECU. Since you have altered the intake mechanism, your ECU can not recalibrate itself for the proper air/fuel mixture, especially @ idle. The ECU will attempt to adjust the parameters at idle (The rpm neddle blips a little) and then since the ECU can't compute/compensate, within a reasonable range..........your motor shuts down.
This is the same result you would get if you only installed the SRT intake WITHOUT the piggy back ECU. In most instances, the Lexus vehicle is not even going to start once you turn the key.
To avoid damaging internal components, I would highly recommend that you return the intake to the either the SRT or stock configuration.

Thanks for your help. I did talk with my mechanic, and he told me exactly the same thing. He said the O2 sensor is sensing the additional volume of air and making the mixture too rich. I guess in my efforts to bring more cold air to the filter, I'm bring too much. "And I did such a professional looking job on the ducting!" Guess I'll disconnect the hose; Oh well, live and learn.
the RMM intake really sucks sasha I used to have it on my car and it actually slowed the car down I was running 15.2 in the 1/4 with the RMM setup. Now Im running a 14.2 with the SRT setup ( thats with 2 12"subs a heavey box and real heavey 18" rims)
haha, POS oh well i guess RMM just wanted to get the part out there quick. I just added an "how your intake works" section to my site, really talked down about RMM, is it really PLASTIC??
