I haven't heard a peep from dagr8tsthustla. So instead I went out and bought a GPS unit for my Ipaq. Works ok...and better than just a compass.

Next car I guess NAV is no longer an option for me...not like I think I will use it everyday...but nice to have just in case.

Which unit did you get for your iPaq? And how well does it work?

Thanks

Me being a budget minded person decided on getting the Radio Shack DigiTraveler for $99.00. It comes with DeLorme Xmap Handheld Street Atlas USA 2003 RSE.

It works ok...not the best out there but the next one up I think is $199.00. I do not plan on using it all that often so for the price you can't beat it. I couldn't get the GPS to work indoors like my old Garmin GPS but it worked pretty good outdoors and in the car. Here is a linkk to the discussion and review of the GPS:

This would be very helpful mod. I had it in my IS300 and now I miss it in my GS400.

This is something that I've always wanted. I don't have Navi and I'm not the greatest with directions. But I always want to know the direction that I'm travelling in........especially when I'm not sure whether I'm lost or not (LOL) in an unfamiliar place. Well, if I knew which direction I was heading, it would make me feel better.

Anyway, I think the GS430s have a mirror with a compass. Can this mirror be swapped into a GS400? This would be something I would definitely want to do.

Btw, sorry to bring this back from the dead. Since this discussion already exist, I didn't want to start a new thread.

Thx.

these gotta work, i dont see why not. But what if i got one from a linhcon town car or any other car for that matter (im talking about the junk yard ok). it should work, i would think, since the wiring cant be that complex.

One of the members from the ES forum installed the auto-dim/compass/garage control mirror to his '96 ES (the stock mirror was just a basic mirror). The upgraded mirror is actually the OEM mirror for the G35/350Z. So this proves that you can use featured mirrors from non-Lexus vehicles to your GS.

yes, all 01+ with no nav has the compass mirror, it's a direct swap with the 98-00 one. that's how mine works

but don't ask me where i got mine, it was one of a time thing, and it's not cheap to get it new

My compass went dead if you haven't seen the other thread. The mirror is held in place with the Torx screw. I haven't taken it down to see what's wrong with it. I keep forgetting to pickup a torx bit when I am at the store.

Got mine from (www.sportsimportsltd.com). Easy install, even easyier if your oem rear view mirror already has the dimming function, just connect the red/blk to the new mirror and play. Mine has compass and auto dimming, install was year ago and still works fine. Took 10 min to install.

ntran18, thanks for the info.

Hameed, did you end up getting one? I saw your post from last year when you showed your interest.

i have the factory oem one, i think that's like 400 bucks or something, very heart breaking. you can pm neo, he got an accurate price on that thing a while ago.

the install and stuff is easy, it's just the price of the part itself that's hard to deal with
