Default Possible cup holder upgrade

I've noticed that the cup holders in my GS are a little bit too big for certain containers, such as a bottled water. When you hit the gas, the bottle goes flying.

This week, I sat in the new GS430. I noticed that the cup holder design and size looks identical to the 2nd gen GS, except for the little divider in the middle has some spring loaded clips that fold down to hold your drink in more tightly. I wonder if that little divider will fit in our 2nd gen GS's? It would be a pretty cheap mod, since the part just pops in and out.

I'm not sure when I'll make it back to the dealer, but when I do, I'll ask the sales guy if I can try the fit. In the meantime, if any of you guys happen to be near the new GS, try the cupholder divider in yours, or your cup holder divider in the new GS, and report back to us as to whether or not it fits.

Thanks

Mine comes with a foam-like material that "hugs" the drinks and render it impossible to shift about during driving. I think that's an option for 2001+ models.

That's great! I'll try that first.

Henry, what was the process to swap the cupholders out? Can somebody post a pic of a GS430 holder so we can see what's different?

Dave you simply pull up on the center divider and it pops out, the new one installs the same way just push down on it, the part is exactly the same with a piece of foam installed on either side of the divider, makes all the difference though.

Is that it? I thought there was more to it and I thought there would be changes to the rest of the hole, not just the center divider.

If this is it, then it is probably easy to DIY a piece of foam.

Is the upgraded part just the foam sides? Did the 98-00 have foam sides also? Thanks

Fax Steve at Carson the picture. He would see it immediately. That's the same exact part that I have on my car. Not that I ever put any drinks in the car...

They knew exactly what it was. He's like, "it's the thing that looks like the Hilton logo, right?" He just couldn't find a part number for it without purchasing the whole cup holder assembly for $99. Obviously this part can be purchased separately, so I'll probably call back tomorrow and get somebody different, or call the Lexus dealer to at least get the part number.
