OK, all you guys out there with GS 300's with slaming trunks because of an aftermarket spoiler. Here's the scoop.

If you have a genuine Lexus spoiler added to your GS trunk, it will weigh less than 5lbs and the 400 springs will work fine. Real Lexus spoilers are hollow.

If, like me you have an aftermarket non-Lexus spoiler, (typically solid and weigh in at 7 to 10lbs), new 400 springs won't help. Only thing you can do is to re-drill a hole about 20 30 degrees closer to the back of the car, as suggested by others. It won't lift up, but it will stop it blowing down on you and trying to de-capitate you! I put in rubber gromets and bit of greace so it wouldn't get a chance to rattle.

Actually, drilling another hole is not the best way to deal with this. I tried that but it only improves marginally. Carson Totoya has the stiffer tension bar for sale. I'm not sure if that's what you are referring to as springs. The black one in the picture is the stiffer replace bar. It only looks a little thicker, but it's whole log stronger than the original. I used the middel hole, and I have to press down on the trunk to close. I have the after market spoiler that's about 10 lbs.
