Tonight was the second time when I had a long open stretch of road with no cars! So I did what any person that loves speed and has a car that handles it well would do. . . I stood on the gas! Throw back in my seat by my GS430 I kept picking up speed. I almost started to worry when I was well over 100mph and I was still in fourth geer, not a prob though it shifted smoothely and I picked up even more speed. I glanced down several times (when I pushed down the butterflies) but I felt my speed level out I looked down once again and it was close to 150mph. I started to slow down and got off at my exit. Then I asked myself why only 149? I know it can handle more so why? And is there anyway to get rid of the electronic govoner?

well because we Americans can not drive. That and if they let the gs430, and some of the works from BMW go to a true top speed we would have people going 180+ mph. Don't feel bad my father has a 01 S500 it pull like crazy till 120mph then it is like you set the cruse. I can tell you this, back in 88 when BMW introduced the 750Il here in the us, some didn't have a governor on them and would run close to 180 mph. Dad of course had to have one so in October on 87 he picked his up. Then when Dinan released the computer chips we (he i was 14) installed them and this removed the limiter as well as firm up the shifts point and added like 50 hp. Anyway one night Frank (friend of dads) was in town and dad offered him a ride ( frank is very rich man, only drives Porsches and Lambos) Anyway frank was driving out on the 6 lane about 11:30 at night floored the car and it started to pull and pull and pull while in the midst of this he looks over and goes this GD sedan is almost as fast as my Porsche. We pass exit 4 and round the small bend at close to 130mph Frank then pushed the gas to the floor and start counting, 140, 145, 150 155 160 I cant believe this 170.......the car start to feel like it is running out of air 175..... the car was turning about 5100rpms if i remember correctly when my pus dad goes (in a shaky voice) FRANK slow this damn thing down now!!!!!!

So im sure that GS430 would do well over the 149 they top us out at but it does come down to gearing.

Unhappy Governor Bypass

Chino - As far as I know, there's no way to bypass the governor until Mo finishes the tranny ECU ( whenever that'll be ). I've been told that the 149 figure was chosen due to the speed ratings for tires, even though the Z-rated ones R for in EXCESS of 149!! The 16" tires are only V-rated ( up to 149, I believe ) so that may be our answer.
