Believe me, the rate limiting step in acceleration is NOT the floorboards. Otherwise you could cut a hole in the bottom of the car, shove the pedal right through the firewall and go REALLY fast!! Truly, the gas pedal does not go to infinity, and though it's limited, the limitation is not the floor of the car.
This is the same sort of logic expressed by the scientists of the Polish space program when they announced they were sending a manned mission to the sun. To avoid burning burning up in the terrible heat they were going to attempt their landing at NIGHT!
