My wifes 1999 GS400 has about an inch long crack in the Passenger Side Mirror. Upper right hand corner , it goes right to the edge. She told me about it yesterday. It does not look like it was from an impact.
Has anyone had to replace just the mirror part? Any idea on costs to get that fixed?
Thanks

Replacing the mirror is pretty straightforward. There were some diagrams on CL. If I have time later, I'll try to find them for you. As for that part itself, I am sure Carson can get it for you.

Hello,
I had to change the drivers' side mirror on my first 99 GS4. I found out after I bought the car that the car had been involved in a slight collision on that side. The original mirror had been damaged, and the normal heated mirror had been replaced with a NON-HEATER mirror without my knowledge. They look the same.
On the first cold day, I pressed the front defrost button, and the passenger mirror started smoking as it melted the water and ice, but the driver mirror did nothing. After troubleshooting the system, I knew I needed a new mirror. I was ticked at the selling dealer, butI knew it was my fault for not checking it before buying the car.
Buying the mirror at the dealership was not an option because it was over $300.00. I can't remember exactly what I paid for my heated mirror at CARSON TOYOTA, but it WAY less than $300.00. Installing it was a snap. I made a pictorial of it on Clublexus and posted it. I will try to find the link and repost it. The entire painted mirror assembly is also available, but the cost is much higher.
On the drivers' side, you have to know if you have the memory system or not because it makes a difference somehow, but I am not sure what. With the memory system, the mirror adjusts with the steering wheel for the different drivers by pushing 1 or 2 on the drivers' door panel.
Give it a try. Removal is easy. Just roll the mirror upwards, put your thumbs at the top and fingers underneath the mirror and gently but firmly pull up from the bottom, and the mirror will unsnap. and hinge on the top. Pull the down off the hooks or hinges, and it will come right out. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness, and the mirror will come free.
Installation is the reverse of the disassembly. Start at the top and hook in the hinges, and fold down to the lower clips. Push in Firmly, but gently, and the two clips will snap in if the mirror is level. It will NOT if it is off angle. Be careful, and everything will come out right.
GOOD LUCK
