New 4d vs used (probably hard) 2 dr.............I think that the decision here needs to be pretty personal regardless of our input; it won't be any of us who have to live with the car. I needed more room and a second set of doors for my growing boys otherwise I'd still have my beloved, special ordered 93 SC300 5 speed. But that's me.........I got (more) performance, lots of luxury (tho not more than I was accustomed to in the SC, just more wood), and more room. If I didn't NEED what I have, AND I could get a little ol lady driven TT Supra, AND I cared less about the luxury and decompression state of mind, I'd go with the Supra. (Actually, I might have gotten the new M3 if my needs were different.....no flames, please........those of you who've read some of my other posts know that this is my 5th Lexus since 92; I am a true believer but the new coupe isn't the direction that I wish Lexus had taken.)

But that ain't you......... Your ride gotta fit your needs. Identify yours and they will tell you what car to get......

These are almost two different cars. You have to tell us what you are looking for in a car; lifestyle, budget, track racing, etc. For instance, I have to transport kids in the back, so the Supra can not be a primary vehicle.

this is why i cant decide, currently i own a mustang, i look at those gs4's with 20 inch rims, body kits etc...and i want to cry they are so beautiful, bu then i look at a supra and i cry again, lol. I love both cars, i want to go race around a track some times here and there, so handling would have a play. I want it to be semi fast, and both cars have that plus both cars have so many aftermarket parts. I am only 18...so kids are not an issue now, or in the near future(i jease i hope not!) i just dont know, they both are so nice....I LOVE luxurey and like the image i get when people look and say i have a Lexus. But then again id like the image out of saying damn, thats a fine *** supra and it eve has 400 HP...see i dont know!!!

$hit smokey, at 18 I would have been happy with ANYTHING with 4 wheels. Not sure how your affording it, but good luck. Going back to when I was 18, I would rather have the Supra. Being 30 though, and the GS has much more appeal.

Well, if you're 18, I say go for the Supra. You will have plenty of years left to get into that luxury car. You can start with a $20-$25K Supra and put in $10K worth of mods, and still be cheaper than a new GS3.

Dare I say anything!!

I understand how you feel, I like my Supra and want a GS. You've got great taste

Then we will see you at the clublexus meet here in So.Cal, ahhh Supercharged GS's, big single Supra's, IS300,SC's mild to wild.

I don't want to burst your bubble, check with your insurance company first. At 18 and driving a hi-performance vehicle( I know how I was).......................If you can do it,great.

Maybe you can make up your mind at the meet. No, your gonna want both

I baught my GS400 when I was 18 ( I'm 20 now ) I also was trying to decide between a supra and a GS but at the end I went with the GS because,

1. Its a Lexus
2. It's more reliabale than a supra (especialy after you mod it)
3. Its more luxurios
4. It has a good sound system even in stock form
5. It has 4 dours ( so more girls can join in on the fun )
6. In a year or 2 everyone and there mom will be buying a supra because they are so cheap
7. resale value is higher on a lexus
8. insurance is lower on a lexus since it is classified as a sedan and not a sports car
9. A lower chance of it being stolen because people wouldn't bother thinking it has the top of the line alarm
10. It's a lexus
11. how many 18 year olds do you see driving luxary cars that are not momy's or dady's
12. girls like heated seats ( from personal expeirince hehehe )

but hey its your car and what you think suites you best but me personaly I would go for the luxury and comfort before preformance and dont get me wrong the GS400/430 does have lots of preformance you spend an extra 1k and you would beat supra's all day but as I said earlier it all depends on you

Decision......Decision........

I'll Got with the _ _ _ _ _!!!

S U P R A!!! or L E X U S!!!

You can't go wrong....... Go for the coupe... No joy riding "friends", that will tear up your car!!!(**** Blockers)...

Rare!!!, Fast!!!, Sleek, Beauty, Reliable(Toyota) Supra TT On the contrary, it does hold it's resale value.... Just check www.traderonline.com compare 94 GS vs 94 Supra (see what they selling for......)

The Lexus Brand has a lot of Prestige.... Luxo, room, power V8, Reliable(Toyota)...

Not to start anything thing but biggie your confused. The supra is the most reliable sports car they make. The only problems you have with them is:
1) vacuum line get hard after time and need to be replaced. $72.00
2) clutch is way to easy to kill.
3) Turbo failure if you run high boost, for a long time. (over 100K miles)

For example. my 98 has 37k miles. The actuators have been unhooked to allow for me to run unlimited boost. they have been like this for 17,000 miles now. Only problems i have had is:
1) vacuum hose leak
2) fried clutch 21K miles
3) broken window motor,
4) rattle in the dash that only come around when it is 72-74* out side

Also they have the best and strongest motor in the world. I mean Toyota said it had 320hp. mine dynoed 278 at the wheels. (333.60) 13.6 hp more than stock when stock!! I installed a BCC, boost cut controller, Down pipe, and cat back. the car then dynoed 400.9 and 410 lbtq at the wheels. which is 480 crank hp 492. torque.
And Im still under factory warranty for 5 years and 100K more miles. Also look at people like Greg paisley, and some of those guy that have stock bottom ends that are producing 1000+ hp. Go to www.mkiv.com then videos, then Brice Dana, and what his 875 hp dyno run!! Or click on this link http://www.mkiv.com/main/index.html

GS430, like everyone else has said it all depends on what you want. Both are the car are going to be a LOT faster than what you have now. Also unless you have a lot of money saved up or a mom and pops to buy one (nothing wrong with that!) it will be a lot harder to find a supra. if you look around the 94+ cars are still bringing close to $30K and banks dont want to finance them.

However this is another option to you. If you want a bigger car but still like the supra. Find you used SC300 and do the $15,000 powerhouse motor & Tranney swap. Sc300 show up on the auto trader all the time for less than $10K Then you will have a Supralexus. Clint at www.Turboimports.com i think has one with upgraded turbos and nos. Then there is also the IS300. you can get one of those for about $32,000 loaded, then another $4-8K for a turbo and your good to go. www.powerhouseracing.com make a kit for the IS300 that brings it to 275hp at the wheels which would be close to 330. Smack dab in the GS430 territory and 10hp more than a stock Supra.

When Megan and I started looking for a car for her there was only 5 that came to mind.
1) Another supra turbo, (auto)
2) GS400 or GS430
3) IS300.
4) BMW X5
5) Corvette. That idea was hers, lasted about week

Thumbs up

This is a good question and I think Calvin answered it quite well. While I am in my 30's, I still chose the Supra before I purchased my 2000' GS400. Since I own two Supra's (one with 800hp) and a GS4, I think I can comment on both cars fairly.

Most of the factors are mentioned in previous posts regarding ability to carry passengers (as in back seat passengers), or for a family car, if this is the case then the decision for a GS4 is a simple one. However, if you don't have kids and don't need a family sedan (sorry that is what the GS4 is), then by ALL means choose the Supra. It has excellent quality, fit-and-finish and is a very robust vehicle. The Supra has incredible performance potential and for a few hundred bucks you are at 370rwhp and still maintain Lexus like quality. The Supra is RARE, a head turner, faster than anything out there, handles great, brakes incredibly well and when you get done having your fun you can sell it for exactly what you paid for it. When you get a bit older (like me) then you can have BOTH.

wow kinglexus that basiclly sold me, lol, yeah i was already leaning towards the supra, but every time i would see a lexus i would think of myself driving one and what all the ladys would think, a 18 year old driving a lexus, ooooo sounds good. But then again, a nice *** supra, 500 hp is good for me, witha fat kit and 20 inch rims, ahhh think they would even like that as much...so thanks guys, keep responding i havent chosen wich car completley yet....just leaning more towards the supra for now, remember ive got 6 months! alot can happen, and whn im 30 im sure i will own a lexus and a supra, im this successful at the age of 18, ill be 5 times more at the age of 30, thanks guys.

Mind to share how do you make your GS4 450HP? I believe most of the GS4 owners also want to know the secret. Is it SuperCharged? Thanks.

Toyota Supra and GS430.... well teh Supra can be an everyday car no problems and could be modifid like crazy ,,, if you go with a Supra get the Turbo but it would be VERY hard to find a good used one they stopped making them remember that, the GS430 would cost you 50k+ the Supra about 20k... ones a 2001 the Supra has been stopped since 1996 or 1997 cant remember ,,

I like the GS430 better I own one and my cuzin has the Supra Normal Aspiration ,,, its no good only the Turbo version rocks.
