01 330Ci or 01 GS300

BMW are pathetic when it comes to reliability:
1998 528i purchased new with extended warranty $47K
1) Transmission replaced - 50K miles
2) Wiper motor twice
3) AC is currently noisy -67K miles
4) Cub holder broke - $75 to replace
5) Molding around windsheild cracked and falling off
6) Electrical gremlins, the tilt starts tilting automatically when you are driving BMW tech laughed
7) Brake jobs at $500 a piece every 20K miles without exception
8) Cooling fans replaced twice.
It amazes me people buy the BMW BS. I mean the cars break down and cost a fortune to maintain.
Lexus GS300
1) $6.85 for felt for interior noises and 80 hours in my time. If I did not car about noises I would never have to touch the car. With routine oil changes I beleive you are good for 150K before any major repairs. I have 26K on my original brakes and they still look new. There is no comparison in quality and reliabilty, Lexus wins hands down between Big Money Wasted and Lexus.

I drove my 325 to work yesterday and today, so I have a few more coments.
-One thing I have to say is that the BMW allows you to "feel" the road better. This can be good or bad. This is great when I am driving to car hard and I'm really into the drive, but bad when I'm just cruising to work and the road surface isn't that great.
-Also, the BMW seems to take "more work" to drive.
-The BMW feels like it is easier to drive faster. So I tend to speed more when I drive the BMW. (bad for my insurance rate)
I like both cars, but for different reasons. Because my commute is 20 miles each way, I prefer the Lexus as a daily driver.

yeah it's true that you drive faster in a bmw. at least i do.
i know it's just a lousy excuse, but each time i go thru corners i wanna breeze thru .. while if i was in a comfy sedan i'd be more cruising. totally different attitude to driving. that's partly why i dont' mind the switch too, cuz i'm fine w/ driving it easy w/ the right car and right mindset. what a difference road feel can make.
i'm more pissed abt my dealership too .. cuz they're a top-seller in canada for bmws, but their servicing makes me think they're trying to cheat me. lots'a bs i need to work thru. but then, it's more the dealer than the brand.
once again, what are the common problems in the GS i should be aware of ??

Another thing you may want to keep in mind is speed. If this is important to you I'd highly recommend
going for the GS400. After a 330ci, GS3 may seem slow to you. A GS4 is actually faster than the 330ci.
Here's the 0-60 numbers:
330ci - 6.1 sec.
GS300 - 7.8 sec.
GS400 - 5.9 sec.
As for problems to look out for, well it's a Lexus. They don't have problems.

what about the MPG ?? right now i'm going at 16mpg on city driving. what kinda real city numbers should i be expecting for the GS3 and GS4 (both 400 & 430) ?
do all GS models come w/ HIDs ? a friend said that german's xenons are way better than the japanese's .. any truth to that ? mine right now is pretty good, but i'm not sure how the GS's are.
btw, i notice that there aren't so many preowned GS in the market .. i take that as actually good news! seems like the owners aren't willing to part w/ it.
also, should i wait till the new GS comes out? I like the current model way more !

believe it or not, gs3 and gs4 all have practically idential gas mileage, 18 and 23/24. the 6 cylinders on the gs3 does NOT safe gas AT ALL.
gs430 all have hid. gs400 was an option, later yrs gs400 mostly got hid. gs300 from 98-00 i think it was option but most of the didnt' have it. the newer ones they are option and more common

i'm not too surprised .. i read in the early 90's that the initial LS400 had better mileage than one of the subarus (can't remember if it's 4 or 6 cyl)!
does the GS4 have the same engine as the LS4?
