Question removing stripe along side...

whats up guys?? i had a question for all the GS owners (or anyone i guess)... all the "nicer" GS's i see on this board have that stripe that goes along both sides removed. IMO, i think its a cleaner look. soooooo, how'd you remove this stripe?? an auto detail shop?? can it be removed?? or is it painted and im stuck w/it?? for anyone that has done this or knows someone that has done this, let me know

mods, i know that this should prob. go in the detailing section and i DID DO a search but could not come up w/anything if you could let this post "hide" in the GS forum for a couple days, that would be GREAT

yes at most detail shops they use something called an eraser wheel to "erase" the pinstriping then you may or may not have to buff the car depending if there is sun damage to where the stripe was any more questions please pm me i know first hand about detailing....hope i helped ...shawn

Good question. You might wanna try the search tool, as this topic has come up from other members before. I beleive there are several ways to remove the body , either covering it up with some kind of adhesive (quite difficult and time consuming), painting it over, and removing it.

Gs wanted" has recently done this mod.

Use the search feature as there is too much info, you can sort through what you need

This is Gs Wanted's car

What stripe? The pin stripe or the Chrome lining all around?

Varcity,

If memory serves me correctly I believe some say you could heat it with a hair drier and then peel it off. But be careful and slowly peel it off to avoid tearing the stripe.

Varcity64:

There are two types of pinstripes... the kind you can heat up and pull off are decals (I had that on mine when I bought it) and the other are actually painted on. You need to figure out which you've got as the process for removing them is very different.

I know we've had a number of threads on this topic, I did a search on 'remove pinstripe' and found a bunch. For example here are a couple (second with more links):

I had the stick-on stuff on my car old GS when I bought it. Took it to a self-wash and used the high-powered spray on an angle that was flat on the surface of the car (as if you were using a putty knife to scrape paint off) As long as I held the spray of water close enough to the car (be careful with this) the stripe came right off. Took 5 min maybe.
