Default Fuel Pump And Performance????

I recently replaced the fuel pump on my GS400 at a toyota dealership with an OEM pump $315.00 is it possible my car is slower???

What can the mechanic possibly do wrong, it's only a fuel pump.

PS, I'll be going back soon my fuel tank reads 1/2 full when I fill up the car.

Please let me know if I should mention the car also feels slower, if the fuel pump has anything to ddo with it, thanks

Here is a generic answer about fuel pump

If the fuel pump is the right replacement, then check for the kinks/twists/constrictions in the fuel lines .. specially around the area that was worked. Note some of the pipes are inside the tank ... suction line that feeds into the pump can also be constricted.

The mechanic should run 2 tests for you
1. Pressure test ... how much head pressure is built up by the pump (usually with NO flow of gas)
2. Flow Rate test .... volume of fuel pumped in a given duration.

Failing test #2 would point to "slowness" although test #1 is important as well.

Although Toyota and Lexus are the same company, are you sure you got the right part (Fuel sensor is messed up too).

This is a pretty straight forward one on a vehicle with EFI. The fuel rail is already set for attaching a pressure gauge. Just have the mechanic check the pressure at the engine. If the correct pressure is there, it's something else. The pump should put out more than enough pressure and excess is bled off and returned to the tank. If the pressure at the engine wasn't within factory specs, there is a problem and sluggish acceleration would be just one thing that could spring up. For the GS430, the fuel pressure at the engine should be 44-50 psi at idle. Lexus also specs that after shutting the engine off, the gauge should read no less that 21 psi for five minutes. Obviously if you don't hold the pressure, there's a leak somewhere. If you have the right pressure at idle and leakdown, the pump is probably fine, something else needs looking at.
