Exclamation Borlas

GSW - Maybe Summit changed the part number & pricing on the Borlas? That's why I recommended to Charonne that she call Summit directly & speak to a salesperson. I'd imagine that as the demand for them go up, so will the price ( funny how that works, huh? ). My info is almost 6 months old so thing might have changed since the old site. BTW - I got mine from Muhammad as part of a package which included the intake & T/C so I don't know what he charged me for just the muffs but I still see $499 on the SRT website.

C - I got mine from Steve... I highly doubt your dealer will do better, if they even know what it is

As for install, yes, even I could have done it myself. I got part way there one evening - took off one of the old mufflers and could see how to get the new one on, but I ran out of time (needed the car the next morning) and chickened out and put the old one back on. Also, the new mufflers came with gaskets that go between the muffler pipe and the rest of the exhaust, and I wasn't sure how to take the old gasket off which was tightly stuck on the rest of the exhaust. The dealer probably just pried it off with a screwdriver or something, but I wimped out. Besides, it only cost $75 at the dealer to have them put on, which wasn't bad, and I like the fact that my dealer has a record of the parts going on and that it's their fault if there's a problem!

I know nothing about a Borla install of course, but I expect it's similar and someone mentioned you'd need to get new gaskets from the dealer.

Default BORLA SS

I was going to buy a wing with my next pay check but now I'm thinking of getting the Borlas. If they are just $339, I'm definately down for that!! I might even be able to get a wing AND the borlas!! Altho, I just read a post that someone wrote saying they cost more than $339!! What price are they?? What is the part number?? I can't wait!! My car will finally sound like a V8...

Smile Call Summit

Justin - To end all the confusion, just call Summit @ 1-800-230-3030 & talk with a salesman. I've found theirs & Borla's websites not to be very helpful trying to do this research for ya'll so go directly to the source.
Sasha - like Bit showed, the Borlas are also smaller & lighter ( by about 5# each, I guess ).

Lexus-Tow things for you. With my GReddy exhaust system I averaged 10-12hp. over 5 dino runs. As far as the exhaust being heavier, it true, but you must also keep in mind the the piping size is 70mm and the the system is a true cat back system with a straight through design.

RacingAristo- Most of the "CHEAP" systems out on the market are rear mufflers only. Rear muffler system are know NOT to give but only 2-4hp. I have never heard or seen any thing do better. With me and my friends we have all gained around 10-12hp at sea level. I'm sure I don't need to tell you people at higher levels might vary. I have had a REAR muffler system and found that it not meet the performance value that the GReddy system offers.

MeaGean- The problem I had with my Borla was that rust have formed at the weld on the back of the muffler within only 4-6 months. When i tried to resolve this matter at the dealer I bought the system from they said that borla would not give a warranty on it because they (borla felt that I had done some thing wrong to the system. Well that pissed me off. It has been over 6 months and I have let the issue go because this problem did allow to find and enjoy the cat back greddy exhaust system. I must also say that the guy at greddy I spoke to was very helpful, even though greddy does not sell to the public he still welcomed me to there show room. Any check out the greddy exhaust.

And now my last reply of the day this goes out to everyone. Why are so many of you talking about how CHEAP can I get this or haw CHEAP can I get that? If you are so worried about how cheap something is why are you driving a Lexus. The word CHEAP should only and I do mean only be use in the same sentence as civic or integra. The people that are concerned with CHEAP either had the car handed to them or they just don't understand what they have. I'm sorry, but this whole cheap thing has angered me.

Most people don't have an unlimited budget, even though they drive a luxury car. There's a difference between 'cheap' and 'low quality'. I don't think anyone wants low quality stuff, but that doesn't mean they have to buy the most expensive add-ons out there.

Either way, it shouldn't make you angry. Take some deep breaths...

bitkahuna-Cheap and low quality 9 times out of 10 go side by side. A note about a budget: If you want the high quality (and I guess that leaves out borla) that generally means high expense. and a final not: for high quality I would pay anything, after all that is why I bought a Lexus. and I think you can agree.

Question which BORLA S/S? RA?

OK, this is the info i have concerning the borlas:

11733-$414; the old price was $394
11730-$339

they both showed up on the summit racing site; but the borla.com site only has the 11733.

like MG said, we need to call them directly.

Exclamation Something To Look For!

Kodai - Thanks for the input - now I know what & where to look, although as I stated before, never had problems with Borla before. Not sure I'd classify Borla as "low quality" but I haven't had the bad experience U've had. Another thing concerning mods - not everyone wants the absolute max performance gain at the expense of cosmetics. By this I mean ( & I am refering ONLY to myself ) I don't care for the huge tips of the GReddy system. It reminds me of some of those Civics you mentioned earlier but hey - I'm old!! So what if my Borlas only yielded 8 HP on my dyno tests instead of the 12 U got from GReddy. As long as we're both happy with the exhaust system, we both win! About the word "cheap" - I think we're talking about semantics here. I've been on the CL Board for almost 2 years & I know that without exception, our members don't use the word to mean "low quality". Even the first definition in Webster's refers to it as meaning "low in cost" & this is how I feel we use the word. After all, why pay $499 for mufflers directly from Borla when Summit offers the very same product at $3-whatever that it's going for now? Still a quality product at a better price - isn't that what we ALL want? I'll get off my soapbox now!! BTW - Happy April Fools to all!

Personally, I agree with Gene. I dont' think ANYONE here would buy something of low quality. Especially on their Lexus. But why pay more money than you have to?? Let's see, buy Borla SS exhaust for $499 or buy it for $339?? DUH, NO BRAINER!! I'm sure you bought your Greddy exhaust at the lowest price you found?!?!Paying the $499 is like having a late charge at Blockbuster for a movie, it's throwing your money in the garbage!!
