Default L-tuned steering

I recently purchased my GS about a month ago. I think the guy who had it before me had modified it somewhat. He definitly had subs in it and possibly rims but thats not why im posting. I was curious about the stock GS steering, is it very very loose to the point that you can easily turn it with one finger. I realized mine is somewhat tight, not as tight as my bmw 528 was but pretty tight steering, is there a possibility the former owner put in the L-tuned steering chip?

It's certainly possible, but if you dont know for sure, you're pretty much out of luck because the L-tuned ECU and the factory one are identical in appearance. If you still have his contact info, just call him and ask. In my observation, GS's vary widely in their steering wheel 'feel' depending on a variety of items including tires, wheels, steering pretensioner tightness, etc.

yeah there is no way you can know if you have the ecu by just looking at it.

My '01 GS had stock steering and the feel was very loose, even though I had 17" wheels. My '03 GS has the L-tuned steering and it is tight, even with 16" wheels. Like DaveGS4 and Rominl said, there is no way of knowing, but if the steering feels linear and tight it's a good bet it has probably been upgraded. Enjoy!

He could have had the pretensioner adjusted as well.

Stock steering, on stock wheels, turns very easy...one finger for sure. I put in an Ltuned steering ECU recently and find the steering the same at city driving speeds...the real difference is tighter feeling at highway speeds. You can't check for the upgrade yourself...stock and Ltuned ECU parts look the same and have the same part number.
