Default 2001 Lexus gs300 rear squeaks - solved

Hey guys just wanted to document some very annoying squeaks on my Lexus GS300. Everyone blames the lower "ball joints" but those are very consistent squeaks occurring around 150k miles. These occurred about 220K miles. First was a very light squeak, intermittent. It turned out to be the strut bumper had broken and turned on itself and was rubbing the strut shaft, Truth be told not sure how it was even possible but it was the culprit. Only way to see is inspection camera or disassemble strut as the bushing is inside the metal cover that covers the strut rod. Second was opposite side of car. It was. where the strut mounts to the lower control arm. over years the strut bushing slid on the strut bushing shaft and allowed hard metal on the strut to rub against the lower control arm. Obviously these were found after replacing control arms, sway bar bushings etc LOL!!!! So in end the dynamic part of strut was fine it was a mounting point and absorption bumper....... Struts were worn out. If replacing struts get strut cartridge, absorption bumper, coil spring insulator, rest of your elastomers will be good. Use silicone grease only on rubber if you like no grease it deteriorates rubber....
