How common are ECU issues with the 2GS?
Recently switched sides from my '93 SC400 to a '00 GS400 Platinum Edition and I'm very happy with the GS so far since it's in much better condition. I'm wondering whether or not the issue of bad/leaking ECU capacitors carries over from the SCs and LS400s of the same era, since it seems to be a problem plaguing those models. I couldn't find much on GS capacitor issues by thread searching, but my forum searching skills are probably lacking. Anyone got any experience/knowledge on 2GS capacitors?
No, this is not common at all. ECUs that are now over 20 years old are still working fine.
And not only the ECU, but all other electronic modules of the car also work normally.

The 1UZ VVTi ECU doesn't have problems as often as the earlier ECU's, but they still use electrolyte filled capacitors that will eventually leak and damage the circuit board. So keep it mind if you start having phantom problems. I ordered new capacitors got a professional to swap em out for me. It was more for piece of mind, it cost less than $100, and I don't have to worry about replacing my ECU in the future
