Hi all, I spent some time diagnosing these servo motors during the holiday break on my 2001 GS430.

Since these oem motors can cost $150/pc, that can get pretty pricey if you replace all of them at once. Here is what I notice during diagnosis. It would be awesome if you guys could help steer me towards which of the (4) servos may be bad.

- When I start the car, I get a buzzing under the dash for several seconds. I’m guessing that’s one of the servos motors.

- All vents blow air (dash, legs, front windshield defrost, and rear seat vents) depending on the mode. I guess that’s good.

- However, if I turn on the heater full blast, only the driver side dash vents blow warm. The passenger side dash vents, legs, and rear seat vents just blow ambient air (no heat).

Any ideas? It sounds like it may be the passenger side hot/cold? Thanks!

Also, which one of the motors is responsible for getting hot/cold to yeh back seat vents?

I just went through this same problem. It was the passenger heat servo. It controls the rear passengers as well.

Thank you, that’s what I expected. Searching this site I see some inconsistent info on which of the two P/N is the passenger side heat/cold servo?

I picked up a passenger side hot/cold servo… about $110 OEM on eBay.

I’m wondering if you guys can give me an estimate of how much time a first timer will need to swap this thing so I can plan my day appropriately.

Thank you.

It’s fiddly getting the screws out. I didn’t put one of them back.

I’d say a minimum at one hour, but your level of fiddlyness may vary.
