Rear Main Engine Seal Leak? Help.
I've got a very small leak in the rear engine seal on my 95 GS 300. It is like a drop the size of an eye drop. It doens't drip to the floor. Is this common? It's my first lexus.
ONe mechanic says it's time for a long block (new). It's only got 146k miles and has been very well maintained.
Should I worry about it?'

Long Block?
Yes, it pretty comon for the high mileage car because the seal(rubber) get dry up. The shop need to pull the transmission out and replace the rear main seal. If you car run good without any knocking noise, then you don't need a long block. In the future you will see more and more seals leaking oil like valve cover gaskets, front crank seal, cam seals and distributor o-ring because those seals are getting old and it's time to replace.

146K! Heck, the main seal in my GS blew at around 45K. Not common, but it happened.
It's expensive due to the labor -- you might as well have them look around at what else needs a bit of work or upgrading.

I would check some local shops for pricing first, I mean your car is not under warrentee anymore! So just find a good shop...(not the dealer because you gonna pay lot more). Maybe a Toyota certified shop!
