Well I lined up the distributor, then hand cranked the harmonic balancer and i put the distributor in, it turned on but there was a bit of smoke coming from the distributor, I got the o ring from a 95 supra and that didn't fit (my dumb *** thought it would fit) so now idk, it doesnt look like there was an o ring on there in the first place

Yea there is supposed to be an o ring, go to a Toyota dealer and get it. it won't cost u anything much. The supra Ge and the gs300 Ge are the same motor and I don't think the O ring should be different not sure about that. Maybe it was a bad part or it wasn't on there period like you said. Have it replace, just fo over the same steps when you pull out the distributor.

That's the thing tho I put the ring on that little slot and put the distributor on and tightened it and there was still smoke, and the o ring didn't let both metals come together, it slipped off the crease where I put it on and it didnt fit in it, idk if thats the way it goes but i'll try to get my hands on the gs300 one and see if there's adifference, thanks a lot though man that really helped

No problem man. And I know what you mean, that O ring should be the same, I can be a hundred % sure it's the same O ring. It may have a different part #/ Lexus and Toyota supra but it's the exact same thing. Just get the new one put in and let your car run for a bit and see If the smoke goes away. Cuz if oil got pass the o ring and got into ur exhaust valves it will smoke u just need it to run longer to burn it out and that smoke should go away.

Well now that I did that and I put a new thermostat in the engine runs super smooth (it didn't have one in since I got the car), but the shifting is a little funny, and when I hit about 5 or 6k rpm there's a loud *** whistling sound coming from the hood

That means there is a vacuum leak, make sure all the bolts on the intake manifold are tight. I had that same issue on my gs.

What didn't the car have since you got it? Besides what exactly did u do to the car besides messing with the distributor while doing your thermostat? Was it shifting funny before of this is ur first time using the car period. Did you disconnect your battery while doin any of the most resent repairs?

The thermostat was the only thing missing that I know of, only things i've changed under the hood is the heater control valve, oil, and thermostat, and the day I happened to take off the distributor all I did was take off the bottom rad hose since that's where the thermostat goes, I disconnected some plugs and hoses when I thought I had to take apart the valve cover but i'm sure I put everything back where it belonged, there was even a plug for the fuel rail that wasn't connected and I plugged that in, not to mention a lot of loose nuts and bolts from the neglection of the previous owners

and no I didn't disconnect the battery... What it was doing at first when i put it back together was that i'd have my foot more than halfway down on the gas pedal and it would accelerate sluggish, then at 4-5k rpm it gains speed in a rush, 5-6 the whistling before it shifts to the next gear, before the engine ran pretty rough like when I was at a stop it would literally shake the whole car, now it doesn't really shake much

The thermostat was missing?
So basically, you just bought the car and the previous owner told you it just needed a thermostat? I would suggest you go over the entire car and inspect everything before you start to use it. From the I hear the previous owner doesn't know jack about that car so besides what you were told there me be a lot more wrong with the car. Not saying it to scare you, I just don't get why wouldn't there be a thermostat installed even if it was bad, how were they driving around with it like that? take your time and inspect everything in the engine bay, make sure the line pressure cable is hooked up, there should be three cables connected to your throttle body, one is your cruise control cable, the line pressure cable that come from the trans and the gas pedal cable. Check you trans fluid level and color. Warm up the engine to operating temp, move the shifter through gears like PRND2L, then put the trans in neutral and check the level. If the trans fluid is low, dirty or looks like engine oil, flush it out with Toyota T4 trans fluid. Clean throttle body, check ur air filter, check for vacuum leaks, connect or repair if found. But if everything do check out good you are fine. As for the funny shifting, idk if the car been sitting for a while or at one point the battery died in it and was jumped started or whatever.. But if u loose power to ur batter sometime the ECU forgets your driving characteristics, you will have it drive for a day or two to get it to learn and and adapt to the way you drive which could possibly take care of the funny shift. So check and do these few and let me know what you come up with. In the main time try and post form close up pics of the car and engine
We may be able to further assist you if see something that doesn't look right.

No check engine light, the previous owner didn't really tell me anything, i've had the car for a year now, it was stopped for like 6 months before I got it and I started driving it on march, I thought the thermostat was bad since everytime the car warmed up antifreeze spilled out from the radiator cap, but I guess it turned out to be a clogged overfill tank, i'm not too sure on how to track down the vacuum leak, and soon i'm takin it to a shop so the can do the seals and sparkplugs and stuff i'm not a big fan of changing gaskets
