Default 1.5jzgte

Well earlier today I was surfing over at Supraforums and remembered the 1.5jzgte and wondered if it has been done on a first gen Gs.

I've been searching for ways to turbo the Gs in the most cost effective way and remember my old Mk3 supra and 1.5jz hybrids.

has anyone ever done this or seen it done? I've seen everyone do 1jzgte swaps or 2jzgte swaps in thier lexus's but never a 1.5jz.

for those who dont know its basically a 1jzgte head bolted onto the 2jz block.

Its only ever done on mk3 supes as its cheaper and easier and cheaper to do than a straight 2jz swap as the 1jz lump is already in the car. If you do it on a GS you will be gaining **** all really over a 2 jz swap as you won't already have a 1JZ GTE lump in your motor. You'd be better off considering an NA-T conversion.

actually in the US they have to swap out the 7mgte, find a 2jz block and the 1jz head. since we already have the 2jz block i was thinking about just swapping the head from the 1jz over

Actually most of them are done by MKIII guys who have already swapped in a 1JZ went single and got 1J cams and headwork done but want to go to a 3 liter bottom end as a stroker option. so they dont have to re-buy a single manifold, cams, and springs, and retainers, yadda yadda yadda for a 2J.

i was thinking about doing a 1.5J in my MKIII but im going to be selling it to get a 1st Gen GS do to a baby on the way.

i think it is a good idea IMHO. i've seen Single 1.5J's make 700-800whp

I believe originally it was because everyone thought the 1jz head outflowed the 2jz head. As I have seen some MKIV's from back in the day with 1JZ heads. While it does outflow in some areas it doesn't in others but apparently can take more headwork than the 2jz. Don't hold me to that though.

This is the longest going myth, couple of Houston guys had done the 1.5J swap but it just turned out to be a waste of money. Follow the link, google the heck out of it and you'll come accross the same results. Overall the 2J is a more efficient power plant. If you're okay with spending 3k in just headwork and then all the 1J goodies then look into it but beyond that, its a waste for general tuners.

If you can get the 1jzgte head for really cheap (complete).. or already have one. Than it wouldnt be a bad route to go. But, for the GS it would be a better option to swap the 2jzgte head onto the GE block because the aristo's came TT, so wiring would be much easier. This is primarly why SC's go 1.5jz, because the soarer's came with the 1jzgte and wiring is a peice of cake beyond extending the harness.

Same thing with mk3 supras.. A lot more people have the 1jzgte's or 1.5jz in their cars because thats what they came with in japan. Straight forward and easy to drop it, and wire it up. So if you want to keep everything simple and straight forward than keep to this.

GS - 2jzgte/2jzge-t
SC- 1jzgte/2jzge-t
mk3 Supra - 1jzgte/7mgte
