wheel vibration
just bought myself a 1996 GS300 with 144,000 miles
There is a dramatic vibration that is speed related but varies between 40 - 60mph.
The lower balljoints were changed in June 06. All 4 tyres are worn to about 3mm
I dont know about the disks being warped - is that possible.
If so what would you recommend.
if the wobble comes on at 40mph I can accelerate through it. If it come on at 60 I can slow down out of it....... seems road dependant.
If I hold the same speed and knock off overdrive the wobble remains although the revs change - so speed related not engine !!

wheel vibration
thanks,
checked the previous threads and they mostly seemed to indicate a constant wobble ie engine mounts or steering column.
I've had wheel imbalance in the past but never this violent. It is also either there or not !!
Will try for new tyres next week.
If changing the brake disks (rotors) whats best OEM or aftermarket.

Try this: After you feel the vibration, or your car pulls to the side. After your done driving, get out and go up to each tire and see if you smell brakes.
Another way to determine if your calipers are sticking is put your car on a lift, put the car in neutral and see how freely your tires spin. That will tell a lot.
Before dropping any $$$ into brakes, you can buy caliper grease at any autoparts store...take your calipers off and grease up the bolts...that could take care of the problem.

I've read where corrosion between the wheel and hub can cause this problem. Try using a wire brush to clean the surface where the wheel meets the hub after getting your whels balanced. Also if your tires are worn pretty well, I have experienced the same behavior of the front end. Check those out and se what happens.

thanks guys
several things to try here, thanks for the input.
Had new Toyo 235/45 18 fitted on the front, seems to have improved the situation but not cured it.
Will try a combination of the least expensive advice above and see what happens.
Toyos are great and very quiet......
