whine noise HELP!!!
My car: It is a 95 GS 300 with only 104K miles. Here is a pic:

The problem:
When I start up my baby, it makes a whining noise. Seems to be coming out of a certain pulley. I rev it up a bit (not past 2500) and it goes away. Also I notice a small rise in fuel consumption (less mpg) giving me like 14~16 mpgh (I ALWAYS USE 91 OR 92, NEVER 89 or 87...NEVER). Another thing is that if I turn the A/C on, the thing really starts whining BAD.
MY DIAGNOSE:
At first I tought it was just the belt because I notice vertical cracks, so I have a brand new belt and new iridium ngk spark plugs ready to install. NOW,
since I did notice that whenever the AC was on I am thinking the pulley was bad just to find out that Lexus don't sell just the pulley, but the whole compressor and it is a mere $810.00...
the AC works fine BUT this f*&% noise is getting on my nerves. I want to be sure it IS the AC pulley that is causing this problem BEFORE I fork out 300 or 400 for either a used or re-man AC compressor.
Anyone with a similar problem or an opinion please help out a brotha!

If it only makes noise when the A/C is on, that means it's only happening when the clutch is engaged. Sounds like the compressor is on the way out. Did you check the pressure to see if it's up to full?
this is what it kind of confused me: yes, the compressor is working fine and the pressure is full and good... still I am thinking I will have to replace the AC compressor anyways; you know how hot the weather gets here in Tucosn
=,p (that'll be 400~300 less off of my GTe conversion budget
boo hoo hoo)
BTW, do you happen to know if a TT Supra AC compressor would work? My buddie at dentsetsu motorsports in Tucson offered to sell me an extra one he has for cheap, but I really don't know if they are compatible... :\

well, i just bought a house so i had to *borrow* from my project piggy bank... I am still 3K short right now to have a good swap and either a 60-1 or a gt45 ish turbo (aiming at 500~580 whp).... i still need this car running too
I dont think the supra compressor will work..it might, just check the part number. Its on the back of the compressor, what I did when mine went out is I used a little mirror and a digital camera to take a picture of the back of the compressor so that I could blow it up real big on my computer. If the part numbers match, then yeah, itll work, otherwise, see if your buddy has the hook-up on Lexus/Toyota parts, I think I paid 300-400 for mine for a REMAN compressor..at least I think its REMANed, then again, I have a hook-up.
